I've got a bunch that I've used for years, but I like to freshen it up and add and subtract from time to time. Here's the ones I'm keeping:
Pick an issue that affects your life and look at what Congress and the President have done or will do and what it will do for or to you Terrorism (why it happens, what will help reduce it) Terrorism (what are your chances of being a victim compared to other crimes or causes of death?) Energy (how much oil left, what are our alternatives?) How much does oil cost us per gallon BESIDES what we pay at the pump? Energy internet How could VC make its own energy, how much would it cost and how long to recover investment? Is homosexuality biologically caused? Does daycare hurt or help kids more? Privatizing the military (how much does it cost and how well does it work?) Impeachment: Bush vs. Clinton (or Nixon or Andrew Johnsonor Obama for that matter) Media consolidation and the effect on the news you get Press freedom. Compare a foreign press interview with any public official, or watch the BBC, and figure out why our news media is such an embarrassment. Media bias: Fox vs. broadcast network vs. BBC or Al Jazeera Health insurance: what do other countries do, how much does it cost, and what are the results compared to our current system? The future of reproduction: designer babies and artificial wombs How do other countries balance what students and their families vs. government pay for college? Astroturf and science for hirehow often do they sneak into the debate unnoticed? What should and do we get for natural resources taken from American land? Prison rapehow big a problem and how to prevent it Was 9/11 preventable? What warnings did we have or policy weaknesses? Who helped the 9/11 hijackers besides Al Qaeda? What should we do as a result? How much has the Iraq War cost us and how does that compare to what we could have spent the money on? Corporate crime: what can be done? What has been done in other countries? Nuclear threat in 21st century (should we be scared of other countries with nukes? How many do we have? Who has used them?) Dirty bombs, depleted uranium, other radiological weapons What is the real current threat from biological weapons? Who would use them against us and what would they gain by doing so? How far are we from creating something like the Matrix with brain interface technology? Cointelpro/false flag/agent provocateurs, moral and political implications What does the rest of the world or the Arab World in particular think of the United States? What can or should we do to influence their opinion? What will happen if we attack Iran? Should we have a draft? Environmental hormones and human evolution Surveillance technology versus privacy rights Tracking your kids
What would you add?
