A serious question for those living in Chicago |
|
Are massive parades with floats common during the middle of the work week? And do Chicagoans normally erupt into giant block parties singing "Twist and Shout"? I'm thinking of moving to Chicago, but I'm worried that parades during the work week just cause massive traffic jams and I don't think I can handle that. But I do like that anyone can get into 5 star restaurants by messing with the host.

1. I don't live in Chicago |

But I go there a lot and can tell you that there are always traffic jams. But seriously, Chicago is a great city and has a pretty good mass transit system. I know a guy who lives there (near Wrigley Field) and doesn't even own a car. He rents a car when he comes down here to visit.

4. My sister lived there for 15 years |

She never had a car the whole time - didn't need it.
Incidentally, on three occasions that I visited there was a parade of some sort. I didn't visit all that often. I never heard anyone singing "Twist and Shout" though.
I loved visiting Chicago, but never wanted to live there.

6. I lived there for four years, and never once saw that. |

Closest would be the monthly food and music festivals during the spring and summer that shut down my part of Roscoe Street for a day or two. Also the May Day Immigration March and St. Patrick's Day parade downtown.
