Poll question: Help me out here: i am either getting a wii or an xbox 360 for my baby brother |
|
if you own/play with either, which one do you like more. Which one do you think a 13 year old boy would like more?

1. It depends on how much of a hard-core gamer he is... |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 03:29 PM by WilmywoodNCparalegal
I have both, though I'm a female in my late 30s :)
I'm an avid gamer, in that I like shooters such as Call of Duty and Rainbow 6. I use the Wii for fitness (EA Active, Wii Fit and Tennis) and the Xbox for Call of Duty, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Rainbow 6, etc.
If he is not a hard core gamer and he prefers to play 'lighter' stuff such as Super Mario or sports like bowling and tennis, then go with the Wii. If he plays more intense games and likes to play online with friends, definitely go with the Xbox.
You should add two options to the poll: both and neither (for PS3 aficionados).

4. It really depends upon the kid. |
|
If it were me, I'd definitely prefer to have a 360. Not only is it far more powerful than the Wii, but it can double as a DVD/Media player if he's without one of those. The Wii certainly has a more innovative controller which allows for a lot more interactivity and exercise when playing, so you'll want to factor that in. If the kid has an HDTV and is looking to take advantage of it, the 360 is the way to go. I used to be a die hard Nintendo fan, but the Wii disappointed me. It's really very little more than the previous generation Gamecube with a little more oomph and a neater controller. However, for less casual gamers it has proven to be a hit. Once again, it really boils down to what your little brother is looking for in a system.

7. it depends on how much he plays video games and what kinds |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 03:41 PM by carlyhippy
if he is a serious gamer who plays all different kinds of games, the xbox may be best. Ask him what kind of games he plays, and check the games at the store and see which system would best suit his needs. Better yet, ask him casually which gaming system he thinks is better. My kid has both, and he plays totally different games on each, he plays the war battle type games on the xbox and he rarely played the wii until we got Rock Band Beatles, he plays that and mario party on the wii. It also depends on how old he is, we have found that the wii has alot of games for younger kids, older teens seem to have more xbox games.

11. Have both, and the Xbox definitely gets used more... |
|
but the Wii is great for "physical" games. The Xbox also does movies (if you are online with it).

The Wii is used a bit and is cool because I can plug in the digital card from the camera and view on a bigger screen, but the Xbox does most of the gaming action. my son is able to plays online with all his buddies, better than the old fashion party lines. I took an interest in how to operate the X-box when I discovered it plays movie DVDs. This Luddite is slowly moving into the twenty-first century.

15. I have all three consoles (360, PS3 and Wii) |
|
The Wii was fun for about a month, until the paucity of decent games and overwhelming glut of crap that plagues the system got on my nerves.
The PS3 is a very good gaming machine, but the number of games available for it is fairly limited compared to the XBox. I use the PS3 primarily as a BluRay player these days.
The XBox 360 is my preferred gaming machine. There's a wide range of titles, multiplayer is well executed, and the achievements system adds an extra dimension of fun.

22. Regardless, make sure the console is as ventilated as possible |
|
Don't just stick it under the TV where it will be assaulted by dust bunnies, especially if there are furry pets in the house.
Tell your 13 brother not to smoke around it too.
Ashes & cigarette smoke, very bad for gaming consoles.

24. Xbox 360 for sure..... |
|
The Wii's graphics are not that great and whole hand motion controller is IMO just a gimmick. The 360 offers way more and also has far better games. The Wii is cheaper but that's because of what it lacks in graphics and features.

26. Find out what kinds of games he wants to play |
|
The Wii and 360 are such different systems targeted at very different types of gamers.
If he wants to play games like Wii Sports where he can simulate tennis, bowling, golf, skiiing, etc, and if he likes games like Mario Party or Mario Kart or Sonic the Hedgehog or fighting games, get him a Wii.
If he wants to play more "serious adult" games or shooters like Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Fallout, etc, get him a 360.
I have a 360 and I LOVE IT, but I'm 24 and a lifelong serious gamer. If he's a casual gamer who likes more fun party type games, he'd do a lot better with a Wii, which is a great platform for stuff like that.
