i noticed some worms coming out of my cats butt is there an overthe counter type of dewormer i could get or do i need to take em to the vets

Take kitty to the vet for a shot. They may have to do a follow-up shot in three weeks. If you've more than one cat, take them all -- they're contagious.
Edit: while you're there, get Revolution. You put it on the cat's skin between the shoulder blades once a month, and it prevents a WORLD of nasty parasites, including fleas, ticks, ear mites -- and worms.

coming out of the cat's anus are probably tapeworm segments, which cats get from fleas. Be careful - humans can get them too.

I get mine from a local farm supply store, but they also sell it in the pet sections at grocery stores. My vet says it fine to use.
