Wow, winter in Houston this morning, it is 47 outside.
Now I can light up the wood burning stove tonight.

The temp has to be in the 40's before it is winter for me.

18. You're welcome
:)

We just don't do snow down here. Or ice. It shuts down the city in nothing flat. Floods we can handle. Wind, rain, droughts, no problem. Anything frozen? Well, you can forget getting around town until it thaws ;)

14. Yeah...
Now thats, what I am talking about.. I have been in that..with a 4x4 Chevy Blazer. Took forever for the heater to come on, for the windshield to melt..and lots of ice scrapping off the windshield. (Sprays never worked for me..)

5. I remember those days
and don't really miss 'em, even though 47 is the max we're likely to reach today in sunny Montreal.

Enjoy the cool - as I recall, it'll last about 3.59 hours, then go back to sweltering :P. :hi:

6. Sweltering is my kind of weather!
Cold just makes me miserable and cranky. Now, which version of me to you prefer?

12. Just wait, the heat will return in a few minutes.
Tonight will be chilly, around 41.

I forgot about that major snow storm we had.

15. Good! Then I can turn off the two portable heaters and close the oven.
:D

Driving in that snowstorm was weird. Rain I can deal with, but white objects that look like they have far more mass than water is difficult to accept flying right at your windshield. At least I can swerve to avoid the normal flying debris ;)

I saw two big chunks of tree trunk on Stella Link yesterday at S. Braeswood. I don't know what kind of priority cops have for unsecured loads, but if I was a traffic cop, that's probably all I would be doing for the rest of my life in Houston. I have to wonder how many of those "normal" unsecured loads end up scattered on the roads when we have ice storms...

16. Ice storms.
Nothing like Houston and ice storms, nobody knows how to drive in them.

I remember the last one when cars were coming off the the beltway on to I-10, skate city.

I found some lumber in the summer, in the middle of the street.

Nobody there so I took it home.

I did clean up the street.

17. You could probably build a decent house from all the debris
on Houston roads, assuming you didn't get killed trying to retrieve it. I remember a friend on the north side of town one time calling the city about the lack of street sweeping and getting the question, "Would you rather have police protection or clean streets?" If it had been me, I would have said "Both! Just raise some property taxes somewhere and make it all available. Or is getting sued preferable to keeping the streets clear?"

I really don't get the feeling that Houston will ever care. I guess it's up to us to sue the people losing their loads, as if that will do anything...

19. We could have cleaner streets, crap is everywhere.
I have picked up enough lumber to buld a really nice shed.

You can pick up left over lumber from building sites if you ask.

The left over lumber gets thrown away.

20. Leftover lumber isn't the only usable timber that gets thrown away.
I've always thought someone could make a good business (that has a better sense of running a business than myself) by removing the shipping crate material industries receive. A friend of mine used to dumpster dive and has a box the size of a small trunk made out of teak because whatever was shipped came from India. Sometimes the shipping material is large, too, larger than can fit in a dumpster so it either rots in a pile on nearby land or gets broken up to fit in the dumpsters.

Eventually people will understand the full meaning of the term "recycling" ;)

Now if only I can figure out how to recycle this cold air back to the North where it belongs... :P

21. The cool weather will be with us for a few more days.
I heard that Thanksgiving was might be cold.

Need to check the weather.

Nice weather is coming because os early voting, the weather is always nice during early voting.

I have found good stuff people leave by their driveways.

That is why a little truck is good to have.

I like to recycle.

23. I know, I'm just trying not to threadjack too much
;)

A small pickup would be nice, once I can afford a second car. A Toyota Hilux would be great! :D

You just never know.

I have given away more good used stuff I have found.

26. Going around neighborhoods on Monday morning is best
for picking up stuff, since most people do all their tossing out on the weekends. I've heard of people doing this through River Oaks as they throw out higher quality stuff. Probably not too many pickings though, since it's also an "eyesore" even if only there for a few hours...

Another thing to do is to have friends in the architectural salvage business. They don't salvage everything...

11. I love this weather, open windows and sweats.
I just came back from our cool weather walk.

First we walk over and have Mexican food and the walk over to the Beer Can House.

Then over to the bayou and enjoy the day.

We walked a long way.

We have four degrees of Summer:

Summer. HOT. Late Summer. Mild Summer.
