Watching the original 1951 "The Day the Earth Stood Still." |
|
When I saw it 20 years ago, it looked very dated, with its paranoia, bigoted radio personalities, ignorant populace, and hair-trigger military.
20 years later and it seems as if it could have been made yesterday. Back to the future, indeed.

1. I loved it then as a 10 year old and |
|
...I still love it today every time I watch it.
To think a film made 50+ years ago can have such relevance today. Meanwhile the recent remake has been relegated to the trash bin never to be seen again.

2. There has been no 'recent remake'. |
|
Please never mention such a thing, as it never happened.
It. Never. Happened.
Are we square on this?
God almighty that remake of a classic was a huge stinkin' turd, wasn't it?

3. I didn't bother, just from the little bit I read on it. |

I don't understand why the threat of nuclear weapons is passé, especially with regard to the idea that we would be taking them into space and being a threat to other civilizations. Space is being weaponized, so it's still a legitimate concern. Any alien civilization should be intelligent and advanced enough to realize that if humanity warms the planet too much, the eco-system will still survive, with or without humans. It may take a hundred years or more to wipe us out, but the environment will win in the end anyway ;)

A steaming turd, with corn kernels imbedded. That was tossed into the proverbial punch bowl, while it was still steaming. And now it is floating in the punch bowl ....

10. You should check out last years remake. It's even better. |
|
Keanu Reeves' portrayal of Klaatu is spot on while the flashy CGI special effects are a wonderful upgrade for the dreary and soul-less black and white effects of the original.

11. It was on TV last night, and was everything I expected. |
|
Keanu was miscast, however. He should have been Gort. Or a chair.
