Crappy Time To Be In Sales |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-23-09 09:01 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
Every day before I begin work I tell myself to have a positive attitude and to make as many calls as possible. Then after twenty or so nos you just expect more nos and it gets more difficult. It's a vicious cycle.
I sell advertising space. It used to be lucrative and tolerable when people were buying though it was boring because of the repetition. Now it's almost intolerable.

1. And here's another thing: |

When potential leads are turning you down, the script that your company gives you for "overcoming objections" doesn't cover "historical economic catastrophe."

In normal times you can make sales by making calls. Now the economic headwinds are so strong. I will get off the computer at 9:15 to start making calls and see what happens. I'll bet this was what selling was like during the Great Depression.

3. Milo from Bloom County had a great approach to just such a problem. |
|
When Bill the Cat and Opus were running against Reagan and Mondale, their popularity wasn't so hot. Opus was making calls to voters and one asked why she should vote for Bill/Opus. Milo grabbed the phone and said something like "Because if you don't, we'll come to your house at 123 Main St. and kill your husband Lamar!"
Desperate times require desperate measures.
