1. I always wonder to myself...
"What would Roy Orbison be doing if he was alive today?"

And I always conclude:

"Scratching on the lid of his coffin".

Yeah, he was great. Someone I know bought his 911 when he died. It had a "Clash" cassette in the deck!

2. IMHO, he was *the* greatest white rock 'n' roll singer of all time!
Even better than Elvis, and that's saying a lot coming from me.

6. This may sound fishy but...

I knew Roy. Him and my dad were born in Vernon, Tx and moved to wink where they attended high school. They we're best friends for many years. When I was born in Farmington, NM Roy drove up to see my parents. My dad is named after his dad Orbie Lee. (You have to believe that, who would make a name like that up.) I got a chance to see his last concert in Houston Tx before his heart attack and he rocked. Every year in Wink, Tx they have kind of a festival

Also a biography called Dark Star written by Ellis Amburn has some interviews with my family and cool stuff, even the part about seeing baby me. At least I got that going for me. He's also recently wrote a biography about Janis Joplin called "Pearl".

8. Speaking of Ellis Amburn...
...he has written what I'm sure will be hailed as the quintessential bio of Buddy Holly. It strips away the veneer of "amiable doofus" that Holly's fans have erroneously attached to him and reveals the young rocker as quite the hellraiser. Just one example: Buddy Holly lost his virginity during the gang-banging of a high school cheerleader under a bridge in Lubbock!

The book is titled, appropriately, BUDDY HOLLY: A BIOGRAPHY, and is well worth reading if you believe in setting the historical record straight.

9. And he proves it nicely on "Only The Lonely," "Crying," and "In Dreams!"
Among other songs, of course.

Orbison could have sung opera had he wanted to.
