5. I hate internet slideshows. |
|
I could wrack my brain for hours and not come up with a less effective means of information exchange.
If only we could have a sequential ordering of the names with clickable thumbnail images. And maybe we could call such a presentation a list or something.
If only...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I've been repeating a different version of your first sentence for years; my take is that it's a deliberate attempt to annoy the viewer.

The worst IMO are the ones that look like slideshows but aren't, at least not really. When you click on the "next" arrow, it loads an entire new page.
Of course, with a high-speed connection this isn't a big deal, but it's a matter of having an image load in .25 seconds or in 1.5 seconds, and even that minor lag gets annoying after a while, if only because it seems sloppy and unprofessional.
For that matter, I can recall my days of dial-up, and a "slideshow" like that would take most of an afternoon to get through.

11. I never even tried looking at them with dialup. |

I had a 28.8 AOL connection; my parents bought me a subscription so that they could ask me AOL questions when they had them. You can only imagine what agony that would have been with a slideshow.

12. How about "Top 25 XYZ" lists that are actually on 25 different pages? |
|
They do it for the hit counts and ad impressions. You gotta keep clicking "Next" "Next" "Next."

13. Yeah, I just mentioned something like that to zavulon |
|
Even more annoying is when the "next" links are in slightly different places on each page, so you can't just click-click-click on through; you have to find the link and move to it.
Aaaargh!

14. If you use Firefox there's a plugin that actually |
|
gets rid of those annoying multi-paged sites and automatically loads the next page underneath the current one when you scroll to the bottom.
