Sweet sweet lust..

She is a wooden "Sea Sprite" Gaff rigg ketch named Lobo Del Mar (Wolf of the Sea).

We are going to be in the area tomorrow to look at a 32' Dreadnaught, and I'm going to arrange a surprise introduction..

1. That's beautiful!
It's such a classic look.

Seems comfortable and probably sails like a dream.

Good luck in getting such a great piece of work!

3. That she is..
I've never sail on or even near a gaff rigged ketch. I wonder if they can sail well to windward?

6. Yes she is wood.
The current owner says she is sound (I will find a good wood hull surveyor if it come to this).
The engine's top end has been gone over. The only pressing need is for the cutlass bearing to be replaced. I would have her pulled and the bottom painted right off the top so this would be dealt with immediately.

The only thing I weary of his her ballast to displacement ratio.

Her specs:
LOA 34', LWL 30', Beam 11'-2", Draft 5'-2", Displacement 21,000 Lbs, Ballast 5,200 Lbs. Engine: Perkins 4 cyl. diesel, 50 H.P. with 1,600 hours of use. 50 gallon fuel tank and 52 gallon fresh water tanks. Cruising speed 6+ knots. Max. 8-1/2+ knots.

7. Not so awesome.. Not yet anyway.
Got to get my sweety to consider a wooden hull, and the maintenance it takes to keep her going.
I do know a little carpentry but this is another level all together.

8. I wish..
This is for our pending retirement package. The asking price is now down to 21k and that is probably soft due to the unwillingness of most people to consider wood hulls, and of course the economy.

If we go for this we will have a hard-nose and cash. I'm more then willing to walk away due to the higher maintenance costs associated with a wood hull..

No matter how freaking gorgeous she is.. :loveya:

10. She laughed when I read her the title of the post.
Unfortunately Alley is catching the flu I'm now recovering from so she won't be there to look at her.
