PM and Wings - Why no love?
Man... what is it with people and Wings. Everybody slags on them. All I hear is "Wings sucks this, Wings sucks that" or "So incredibly boring I want to slit my wrists." I know they were no Beatles, but Paul McCartney turned out some good stuff with Wings. So they wrote some sappy love songs; but with all the other good stuff they turned out, I think they can be given a pass.

"Wings at the Speed of Sound" and "Venus and Mars" were two of the 70's quintessential albums. "Band on the Run" may not be the most popular choice in the "album used at pot tray" category, but surely its up there. McCartney's unique musicianship was quirky enough for him to fit the feel of the decade, but serious enough to carry on until today. I know I'll get shit for this but "Back to the Egg" simply rocked. Songs like "Old Siam Sir" and "Arrow Through Me" were genius.

Was it because of the Michael Jackson thing? Was "The Girl is Mine" so awful (it wasn't good, but...)? Was it the Linda thing? Did the late Mrs. McCartney suffer from Yoko syndrome? Was it the weed bust? I think Paul can go back to Tokyo now. Japan has forgiven, can't you?

2. You'll hear no complaints from me...
as far as I'm concerned, Sir Paul can (and never could!) do any wrong. Ditto for all the other Beatles.

9. Jet is possibly the greatest power pop song ever.
Venus and Mars / Rockshow wins points for being both great and deeply silly.

13. Rock Show - Love It, Love It, Love It
That song is just an intentionally simple rave up that was written with the plan of opening a live show with it.

It definitely would set the tone. Loud, trashy, and goes through a couple of interesting changes.

11. LIke most of Wings material.
However, when Paul started his "real" solo career in the early 80's - Let's just say I was underwhelmed.

Don't know what happened. Must have lost the inspiration, or something. But his music seemed like it was forced - just going through the motions.

Too bad. He WAS a talented songwriter. That talent hasn't been showcased for years, though...

12. McCartney's first solo album
"McCartney" was much better than anything he put out with Wings.

This is what I'm talking bout

14. Ram (not wings) is also really underated, Band on the Run (wings) has many

great songs. London Town (wings) also pretty underrated, there are great ones there too. Love the medley on Red Rose Speedway.

The only one not so great is Speed of Sound, where he is trying to make it like a real band (not just McCartney backup) - but even that one has some gems.

15. I agree. Much better that Wings.
'Maybe I'm Amazed' is one of the best love songs in the rock and roll era. But he lost his edge about 1980 or so.

"Say, Say, Say"? Ewwww.
