When was the last time anyone used one of these?

The floppy drive on my old (seven years!) computer died and I didn't even bother replacing it. My new computer doesn't even have one.

I have one of these.

It holds 320 GB. A floppy holds 1.44 MB.

1. Actually, about three weeks ago.
Most of our CNC machines have drives that accept those.

3. LOL! - About an hour ago!
I've got a USB floppy drive for my laptop and I was looking for an old image file. I couldn't find it on any of the external drives (and I've got a collective 4 TB of external storage). I didn't find it, so I'll be using more floppies tomorrow, or maybe I'll have to pull out one of the ZIP drives.

37. Wow! That's a great picture.
I haven't used one in a while, but I still have 5 1/4" disks and several drives that will read them. I also have a LaserDisc player that gets regular use as well as a turntable, 2 VCRs and a dual cassette deck all plugged into the same receiver. It takes two A/B switches to get everything to work. There are at least three working 8-track players in the basement, but I haven't fired one of those up in a long time. Both the VIC-20 and the C=64 have cassette drives but I also have a single-sided 5 1/4" floppy drive for the C=64 that holds a whopping 156K.

They were for my old C-64 that I no longer own. I know there are some old games on a few of them, like Spelunker :)

in some areas.

40. OK - I misinterpreted what you meant. I thought you meant he went from an old laptop
to a newer one. Pretty hard to find a laptop that uses 5.25 :)

Yeah, you can find them, but what I meant is that they aren't manufactured anymore, so there is a limited stock available, and a lot of the time, you're buying pre-used diskettes that have been reformatted.

50. No worries
I have no idea where or why he gets them. I think he is still looking for a drive he can hook up externally to use them. He found an old scrap drive a while back, and tried to make me install it in his last desktop. It didn't have the same cables. I had never seen the cables that it had. Clear flat plastic with wiring printed on them?

15. A year or two ago.
Trying to remove all the data on them before I forgot where I was in the 200+ disks. I may have to start over.

Years and years ago, I took some of my dead ones and glued them to magnetic sign material to slap them on the roof of my car. You'd be amazed (or maybe not after reading the entries at notalwaysright.com) how many people seriously thought it was a real, and usable, floppy still on top of my car, while going 55mph or higher :P

36. Just last week!
I had a dead PC (Win XP come into) come into the shop, and when I went to get all my software, the first thing I found was an old "NT for DOS" diskette! I booted it up and salvaged most of the data from the rapidly failing hard drive.
