I'm gonna scream!!!
I do medical transcription, and am now working on a file in which the doctor insists on eating/drinking/chewing gum while she dictates. That is bad enough, but in the background, she is listening to some right wing/religious radio station that was playing a tape of a Dim Son "speech". AACCKKKKK!!! I can't stand that man's voice. It's worse than fingernails on a chalkboard, and I CAN'T TURN IT OFF!!!!

Rant over. Thank you.

2. Can't you politely ask the doc to turn off the radio?
Tell her it is interfering with your work. Seems like a reasonable request to me.

3. I agree...
Tell them that the background noise makes it difficult to make out words or you can't be sure who is speaking at some point.

4. Nope.
I work as an independent contractor for a transcription service. I have mentioned problems with other physicians in the past, and they can't/won't do anything about it.

This person is actually not the worst of the ones that I have typed. My favorite is the one that whispers when she dictates because there are other people in the room that she doesn't want to disturb, coughs/laughs/yawns while dictating then doesn't repeat what she said during that time, speaks so quickly that even when the speed is dialed all the way down it still sounds like the Fed Ex guy on uppers.

I guess I just have to do the "mom thing" and block out the extraneous background noise. Heaven knows I do that with the background noise in my house (2 kids, dogs barking, etc.). Just needed to let off a little steam today.
