So, the psychiatrist I saw at the hospital last night has a treatment for my depressive phase. |
|
Strenuous exercise three times a week.
Which totally works when I can barely get out of bed. :sarcasm:
God, I really hope the psychiatrist I see in a week gives me a proper diagnosis and real treatment, unlike all the other assholes I've come into contact with. Pray for me. Or something.

1. I am sorry they could not help you. |

I have clinical depression. For what its worth, when I am going through a depressed phase, *IF* I can get myself out of the house, exercise does help.
I hope you can find the help you need.

2. They all say that exercise is a mood elevator |
|
And I do see the point somewhat... sitting around dreading stuff is generally more depressing than getting up and doing ANYTHING. Even if it's just laundry or a stroll or whatever.
I've been trying to do a walk at the rec center track 3 or 4 times a week, and I'll generally feel a little better afterwards. I'm working up to the idea of going into the gym and getting on the machines.
That's the bummer about depression... nobody can really do things FOR you that would be much help, but it's so tough to do things for YOURSELF when you feel like hell. :/

3. Getting the endorphins flowing in the brain helps |
|
The trick is getting motivated to do it when, as you said, it's difficult to even get out of bed.
Hope the other psychiatrist can provide you an immediate solution to help you. In the meantime, do exercise... never overdo it at first, though. I learned THAT lesson the hard way! Good luck.

4. It does help --I'm sort of in the same bind |
|
I have serious fatigue issues, which the doctor says low impact exercise can help but when I feel this wiped out its hard to even do light exercise.

5. Have you tried just being happy instead of sad? |

Totally kidding. Hopefully you'll get a decent psychiatrist who won't dispense such inane advice. As for advice that I may have, all I can say is, have you asked your Dr. about Marijuana™? Works for me, sometimes anyway.

7. Excercise helps my mood greatly. |
|
Okay, so the doctor slacked on his/her job if that's the sum total of advice given, but it's good advice nonetheless.

I'm on two antidepressants and I take Ambien to help me sleep.
Ain't life a beeeeeeeetch?
I'm trying to start a more "holistic" approach to my treatment though. I'm doing my damndest to eat healthier (preferably vegetarian) and exercise a few times a week. You really have to force yourself to get out and go for a walk, or do whatever you do. You'll feel better afterwards, but I know how much it SUCKS when you just want to give your sneakers the finger and go back to sleep =)

11. This afternoon a doctor also recommended increasing my walks significantly. |
|
I replied that a few days ago, I overexerted myself walking around all day, and was in bed asleep most of the next day. My experience is that medication-leeched energy just does not come back through exercise...argh. I hope that your experience is more positive.

13. Are you low energy? Or so fatigued that you can't get out of bed? |
|
If the former, and if you have an open mind about energy medicine, I could refer you to some videos by Donna Eden.
