I've been dieting for 5 days. I'm having day dreams about all my favorite foods. And since |
|
I'm on a low carb diet of course I dreamed I was having a bath in mashed potatoes. Is there any hope for me. Will these fantasies go away and stop torturing me.

1. It is ALWAYS the hardest for the first week! |
|
The only solution is to hang in there, things really do get better. I lost 30 pounds in 2008 and have kept it off, I don't even miss French Fries anymore.
One big secret is this: all the food that's good for you, like fruit and veg--you're never gonna eat it unless you spice it up. That's why ethnic food is so delicious, the spices are sublime. And here's a good indulgence: I bought truffle oil and tossed my steamed veggies with it. Yummy!!
Anyway, remember: this too shall pass, just hold on. I can pretty well eat anything I want now--and I pretty well only want good, nutritious foods. It took years to get to this point, but it did eventually happen. I just had to keep at it and be patient!

2. Thanks for the encouragement. What a great idea to spice everything up. And |
|
for sure I should be investing in some expensive spices, oils and vinegars seeing as how I quit drinking alcohol a while ago. Why not invest in such things since I'm eating salad 3 times a day. Good plan.

3. After fifty years of trying to be thin |
|
I would say the day dreams turn into night dreams.
When I used to eat low carb for months, I dreamed about bread.
Starvation is never a good thing, but the fantasy of being thin draws people in over and over again.

Are you a Kate Harding fan? Her article on the FoBT really helped change the way I think about weight and health.

4. After a week on South Beach, |
|
I had a dream that I was scrambling from seat to seat on the outside of a giant ferris wheel and in each seat was a rack of doughnuts the size of my head that I had to eat before I could free up my hands to grab the next seat.
The dreams stopped being so blatantly food-based after that, but I have noticed on low carb diets and when I lose weight in general that I remember my dreams much better. Maybe you get a better quality of sleep?

12. I think there is something to be said that the atkins diet more approximates |
|
what we ate as hunters and gatherers. I could be very much healthier for you as I find myself eating not too much protein but more vegetables that I did before. I used to eat jellybeans and ben & jerry's a few times a week. This has to be a much healthier way to be.

13. Oh that looks so good. I've been making cauliflower alfredo for my dad. |
|
Take cauliflower springs and place them in a baking dish. Spoon 1 tablespoon of alfredo sauce over each sprig. Bake for 1 hour (check tenderness with fork to see if it doesn't require more baking). Serve and eat.
I sit there with my mouth watering while he eats it.

20. I'm not actually hungry. I'm just having carb day dreams. I keep thinking about cake tonight. |
|
I think I can do it because I really was overeating before. So as long as I am no longer an emotional eater like I was in the last year...I should be fine.

23. You can add back fruit when you go on maintenance. I'm sure I'll cheat every so often. |
|
Then I'll be eating just like we were when we were hunters and gatherers back in the day. I'm going to try and get my parents (who I eat with) to like spaghetti squash (which is on my current induction fase of the diet) instead of pasta (which I am not allowed to eat).

8. Reserve ONE day a week you can pig out on your favorite foods. |
|
You can only eat so much in one day, so as long as you stick to the diet the rest of the week you should be fine.

9. If you deny your self you will end up going on a horrible binge |
|
eat sensible well portioned balanced meals and join a gym. Once you start at the gym you will see how hard it is to workit off and control will come easier. It is about lifestyle changes not dieting

good stuff out there loaded with carbs. Just a little, once in a while.
