Man, he is so awesome. Seriously, I do like him as an actor as he fills a niche in certain roles.

4. Which frankly, is fine with me.
For a guy who gets knocked, he's highly paid and in demand.

6. he gives a lot of money to charity
And he gave the 12 stunt doubles in the Matrix movies each a harley when the film shoot finished. So whatever his talents as an actor - he seems to be a pretty decent human being, and not a self-possessed Hollywood shithead.

7. I detested him for years, but in the past three or four I've come to respect what he does.

For one thing, he has absolutely no pretensions about his acting ability. It would be one thing in he envisioned himself as a transcendent thespian, but he really seems to recognize his limits. He still works to expand upon these, for good or ill, but I've never perceived any self-important arrogance or over-inflated ego about it. And by all accounts he's a really nice guy.

He's also quite thoughtful about the craft of acting, a fact that tends to get overlooked in the critics' eagerness to savage his actual onscreen performance.

Additionally, his ability as a physical actor is under-appreciated. I'm not talking about his bullet-time kung fu or any of that, but he's capable of surprising subtlety in his body language that truly belies his admittedly flat delivery.

There are far worse actors out there who are dubiously credited for being far better.

8. The Matrix and
A Scanner Darkly were some pretty good roles for him. I'm not a fanboy, but you are right he does fit a niche.
