1. The Elmer Fudd one is cute, too. Geico may deserve some "Lifetime clever commercial" award.
Between the Cavemmen and Charlie Daniels, they are on a roll.

6. It has been a sad decline
He was once an avid supporter of Jimmy Carter, even when he ran for re-election in 1980. Songs like "Uneasy Rider" and "Long-Haired Country Boy" revealed an anti-authoritarian streak counter to his current bent. Somewhere during the Reagan years or after, someone put some Kool-Ade in his whiskey. Unlike Ted Nugent or Dennis Miller, he wasn't always a wingnut ass. And also unlike them, he does have talent. Not only on fiddle, but guitar too. He was the session bassist for Bob Dylan back on his "New Morning" album in 1970, and Dylan recalled Daniels fondly.

I can still listen to his 70's classics, as long as I recall that he was a different kind of redneck back then.

5. FAIL.
That is not the Charlie Daniels of "leave this long-haired country boy alone" fame. Somewhere along the line, the pod people kidnapped him and turned him into an icky reich-wing fundie fiddlebot. :(

7. "Still In Saigon" in 1982 was his last great song
It is still one of the best songs to capture the difficulties of living with war-related PTSD and the social realities faced by Vietnam vets after they came home. For whatever reason, Charlie got swept up in the conservanazi tide of the 80's and has never looked back. He took on a jingoistic tack that Hank Williams Jr. or Toby Keith would envy.

10. Greatest of all time?
Even if I could stand the sound of the fiddle, which I can't, I wouldn't call it the greatest commercial I've seen this week.

I personally like the one about the office worker who woke up after a 23-year coma and loses it when he finds out that Culture Club broke up.

13. How Many Fracking Different Ad Campaigns Does Geico Need
They have the Charlie Daniels one. The Geico lizard. The one with eyes on the stack of money. The cavemen.

Good lord. I get it. They sell car insurance.

17. Charlie Daniels is nothing but a friggin' redneck.
Geico should stick with the gecko or the cavemen. Either would be ten times more entertaining(and more intelligent!) than Charlie the useless hillbilly.

18. Chuck's fiddle playing has rally declined.
Listen closely to that commercial. His playing is very fast, but very inaccurate. He used to be a lot a better.

And for all of his right-wing nuttiness, he is actually very nice in person. We ran sound for him at a gig several years ago, and it was a 95+ degree June day. He directed us, the lowly sound crew, to his personal, air-conned trailer and fetched water for us himself.

19. Emphasis on "shit"
It sounds like nothing but random screeching to me. I have to hit the "mute" button every time it comes on. Like fingernails on a chalkboard...

20. I have to say this: Just about any decent Violin "studio Player" or
.. Classical player could play what Charlie plays and play it faster, more accurate and have a much better tone.
What Charlie plays is really not all that hard... sorry...
