I just did some research regarding a head injury I suffered 11 years ago...Man was I lucky!

The injury caused a mild-to-moderate concussion and a period of unconsciousness that lasted for a few hours. I was hospitalized for one night so that they could give me morphine to keep me sedated and free of pain and so that they could perform tests for brain damage. I was released the next day after I was cleared of injury, and had pizza and salt and vinegar chips for dinner. Unfortunately, my favourite food and favourite snack at the time gave me no pleasure because I had no sense of taste, and so I only ate the minimum needed to sate my appetite and never told anyone why, and let everyone assume that the recovery was affecting my appetite...After a few days, I gradually began to regain my sense of taste, and in 2 or 3 weeks, the last vestiges of my injury were no more. So tonight I was reading about head injuries among hockey players and thought about what happened to me, and decided to find out why the fuck I couldn't taste for so long. Turns out I had post-concussion syndrome, and that a good number of people who suffer from that particular symptom take far longer to recover than I did. So cheers to my good luck, both for living in Canada and getting all this treatment for only the cost of my time and that of my family's, and in recovering from such a miserable injury so quickly. Some would argue that it took me longer than that to recover, owing to my flirtation with libertarianism and the Canadian Alliance in the subsequent year, but I'd guess that I'm fine now. :-)

2. You may be more fortunate than you think...many people with head injuries

suffer permanent consequences..I worked in a US hospital for years and remember one man who needed signs with arrows pointinf to his room, because he forgot where it was every time he left it. He had been in a car accident (no seat belt) hit his head, will never recover.

You won the lottery, friend - good luck to you.
