So, I finally watched a Lady Gaga video...
Sounds like Amy Winehouse after rehab....

Someone told me she is very innovative, I think the people who design and photograph her video are talented visual artists, the GaGa is just wormed over disco to me...

But I know she speaks to a generation and that generation isn't mine so, there you have it...

Catchy riffs, pop music...

Nothing more, nothing less...

is how a friend of mine described her

2. She could very possibly have some actual talent, but....
....I would never know because everything about her is how outrageous she is presented. It would be interesting to hear her sing minus any crazy outfits or autotune syncs, just her. She could actually be good, but who knows for sure?

8. You know what we need? A Chuggo-Lady Gaga duet.
Come on, search your feelings. You know you want to hear Lady Chugga.

But I'm taking suggestions.

I actually have a concept in mind. It's dark, disturbing, and may ultimately get me tombstoned, but what the hell....

12. Very well put!
As an "oldie", I tend to think this way about several of the younger generation's talent. Like Britney Spears. She definitely has some "talent" and she can dance, but is she really talented vocally?

Christina Aguilera, on the other hand, is definitely vocally talented.

18. Someone posted a pre-persona LG video
a week or so ago. A piano ballad, I think. She's a pretty amazing talent. Lovely voice.

As to her selected genre, I can't say I get it, and constant exposure would have me grinding my teeth but it's her choice. Maybe it's financial, or maybe she needs the attention.

3. As someone who enjoys blues
and classic rock, I have to say that she's pretty good IMO. She has a great voice.

Yeah, she's a bit weird and a bit dramatic...but to me there was something underneath all that. I won't be buying any of her albums, but I do think she has talent.

Just my opinion. :)

7. For you who don't know who we are talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_de3C3Pkb8Q

It's good dance music.

You gotta be a slave to the beat. without the funk, you ain't nuttin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Nr33m1zXVE&feature=channel

Or as we used to say "fuck art, let's dance"

She is not high art, but that's OK, people need to dance and she provides the beat.

15. I know what I am talking about...
I said she had catchy riff and good beat...

Isn't that all good dance music is...

It ain't the ballet but it's fun...

BTW, why are you so defensive.

Since art is all subjective anyway, that means aeveryone and nyone knows what they are talking about.

might not be familiar with her get a taste of her work. The fuck art comment was to emphasize that her music is for fun (dancing) and shouldn't be over analyzed.

I was supporting your observations.

but she is very overrated. Her music is great, catchy pop/dance music but she isn't really doing anything innovative.

19. I don't like her songs or videos....but I have really liked watching her live performances
on MTV video music awards and those kinds of shows.

On the MTV video music awards she sang Paparrazzi (sp?) and changed the melody around just a little bit to give the song a cool darker feeling, and then she gets on the piano and seriously looks deranged in the middle of the song and then she stands back up to keep singing and her chest is bleeding so she rubs it all over her stomach and face and it even gets in her eye and stuff.

That was pretty dang cool. But I can't listen to the Paparrazzi song on the radio cause yeah it's just a cheesy pop song.

21. she explained that performance as representing Princess Diana
and how the paparazzi killed her. I thought that performance was intense and great.

According to what she says in interviews, she's very hands with her clothes, her music, her videos, etc. While we don't always understand what she's doing, or why, she does spend a lot of time thinking about it. I admire that she tells her younger fans that it's ok to be "weird".

22. I like her showmanship
To me, she combines Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Freddie Mercury, and David Bowie. With maybe a little Elton John and Cyndi Lauper thrown in.

23. Either she's gonig to be the next Madonna or the next "Whatever happened to....?"
Like Madonna, she has some very innovated skills that have impressed me even though neither I think is a vocal powerhouse. We shall see.

24. The first time I heard her on the radio
I thought it was Madonna. Same kind of vocal manipulation that makes everyone sound the same--mechanical. She may very well have a good voice, and I have read that she's a good composer, but I haven't heard it yet.

I'm an old phart, so her stuff is not my cup of Geritol by any means.

He was talking about her on his NPR show, some music execs were listening, and decided to bring her to the States?

:bounce: She's not for all tastes, and some may not find her talented. That goes for hundreds of musicians. We all have different tastes. I, personally, love her. Think she's very talented and a supporter of several causes that I really believe in. She's an inspiration to hundreds of people who feel they do not have a voice. Long live GAGA!! :bounce:
