I wouldn't do something that would be against my core beliefs at this stage of my life. It may be different for you though. We sometimes have to do whatever it takes.
Don't beat yourself up.

2. Its nothing major....not like I'm voting Republican or anything like that. |
|
Still, I just feel like I'm letting myself down.

8. Okay, here's the skinny. |

As a lifelong Floridaphile and now as a Florida resident, I've never had any love for Walt Disney World. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Disney movies or anything like that, but knowing the historical background behind how Disney World was built in Central Florida and how much of it was an unethical land grab that destroyed acres and acres of pristine Florida wilderness (for a good read on the topic, check out Carl Hiaasen's "Team Rodent"), and knowing the disgusting sprawl that Disney World foisted upon the Orlando area, I've always taken pride that I've never set foot once in Disney World in my 30+ years.
Now the wife wants to take our little girl there. I can't really object and don't want to object, and begrudingly I'll have to come along, but part of me can't help but feel like a sellout to my true beliefs.

Honestly go for your daughter. Think about how much fun she will have. Its not like you have a season pass or anything. Personally I would put the happiness of my child first....You know that your money won't make a big difference. Lets put it this way. I don't get gas from Exxon, myself however were I in a situation where I needed to gas up desperately and Exxon were my only choice I would do it. Don't feel guilty because you want to make your daughter happy....

12. Actually it was a multipark pass. |
|
So chances are that I'll have to be dragged back there in the coming months.
But you are right. I'm just going to have to suck it up and let my daughter do it. It won't kill me. Might kill my spirits, but it won't kill me.
I can still say I've never voluntarily gone there on my own, and I have no plans to do so.

I bet if you see your daughter is having a good time, it won't bother you that much. Even if they drag you back.

....although part of me is hoping she inherited Daddy's genes and finds the place a bore.
I wouldn't bank on it, though. It's hard to bore a 2 year old.

15. Don't let it "kill your spirit"..you're going to have a day with your child that will make her happy |
|
That ,I would think, be such a joy to see and be part of, that your knowledge of the realities of Disney world can and will be suspended for a few hours while you experience what I assume will be the incredible joy of seeing your little girl having the time of her life. I'm sure that this won't be the last time you will make small concessions to the evils of corporate America in exchange for the infinitely greater payoff of seeing a smile on your precious child's face.

4. No, and that's probably the problem |

I'm stubborn and obstinate (and sometimes a bit self-righteous). I've damaged my political career on more than one occasion by not selling out.

...and I constantly find myself at odds with some of the positions of the leadership of all three entities. Yet I take pride in identifying myself with all three qualifiers, even if it means I have to be a little bit of a pragmatist from time to time.
