1. It is indeed very good.

However that initial shock of bitterness is like a slap to the face.

2. I don't get that...

For me the first thing I notice is the roastiness. The almost chocolate like roastiness. Then the sweetness, and then it fades to remind me this is like 9% or something - and I feel the vapors of alcohol on my tongue.

Then again, I love IPAs and don't mind bitter, as long as it has a purpose

3. Am I getting skunky bottles, then?

Because I generally get intense bitterness in the first sip or two.

Can you drink an Imperial IPA without wincing?

Nothing wrong if you can - that just means you have more taste buds than me :)

5. IIPAs and DIPAs aren't my faves, but....

I know a good one when I taste it.

And as I say, Old Rasputin is good. It's just that first sip seems like it's slapping my face, poking me in the eye, and insulting my parentage.
