3. Yes, oh, yes still makes me cry whenever I hear it.
Amazing guitarist, OF COURSE, but hell of a songwriter. Very witty and moving.

4. You're lucky. After over 40 years of performing, still amazing.
I still regret not seeing him live when I had the chance. I do have a bootleg VHS of a live show and he is hilarious.

6. Bruce Cockburn played the same show and Thompson made him look sloppy
Granted, Cockburn played late in the evening and it was pretty chilly out, which might have made his hands a bit stiff, but Thompson was like a machine. Funny, too.

8. Trying to remember the title of the song that is so hilarious
when he performs it live. The one about becoming famous after he is dead. Remember that one? "They never thought I was the same since the break up with my wife..."

7. one of the best
wish I could have caught him and Wainwright. Seen him solo a few times..never disappointed.
Could not believe that Fairport Convention is still trying to be a band without him.

12. A song I still can't listen to without getting a lump in my throat;

I also could have sworn he co-wrote either Shut it Tight or When The Night Falls, from T-Bone Burnette's Proof Through The Night, but can't seem to verify that. Maybe another of those damned hallucinations...

14. Richard Thompson IS god!
Yes yes yes! I LOVE his music, and have seen him perform twice (not nearly enough)! Once was in Santa Fe NM, where he played the Thirsty Ear Festival. There were maybe three hundred people or so there, and I was standing RIGHT NEXT TO the stage. It was awesome! BTW, he sang Vincent Black Lightening. He's such an amazing player, but his voice is what gets me every time.

18. Hell yes
I prefer the electric guitar workouts with Fairport...especially the reunion stuff...to the acoustic tracks.

"Moat On The Ledge" has an excellent, extended "Poor Will and the Jolly Hangman"...excellent Thompson solo.

The Richard-Linda albums were great, but the couple's breakup became raw material for some of the greatest breakup songs ever written.

Post-Linda, I prefer songs like "Hand of Kindness," "Hard On Me," and "Drowned Dog Black Night" from the French, Frith, Kaiser & Thompson project...

...BUT stuff like the acoustic "52 Vincent Black Lightning" also finds its way into my playlist.

20. "Pour Down Like Silver" is such a great record...
in fact, it violates the rule of "if anglos are wearing ethnic head-garb on the cover, the music is guaranteed to be really really bad"

21. God yes, he's incredible.
Probably my favorite living guitarist. Not many people can be so instantly recognizable within just a few notes. There's just something so haunting and lyrical about the way he plays.
