Edited on Sat Feb-13-10 04:49 PM by Taverner
Although he may have been a pederast, he was a damn talented one

1. I would have loved to be him...
when I was kid I wanted to grow up and be one of those cool French artist/hustlers like Gainsborough, Roger Vadim, Christian Marquand...
I was a strange kid

3. Well shit, being him would be awesome!
Although my take on Historie de Melody Nelson is that she rebuffed him, and he's lying

2. Like! :)
I don't know anything about his personal life but I have a few of his songs. I love the duets I have with him and Brigitte Bardot, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin.

5. He kind of symbolized the 'evil European' the Freepers love to cite
For that reason, I salute you Serge!

10. Pardonnez moi, mai Je pense que Serge Gainsbourg est un cafard.
And that's hard for me to say, because I love the French and everything about them. Except, of course, Serge Gainsbourg.

11. Is this because he molests fifteen year olds?
Or merely because he wants to?

13. Because he recorded/videotaped a duet lauding incest with his own teenage daughter.
Not just child molestation, mind you. But incestuous child molestation,.Quite a dreamy concept. Both of them reclining on a bed.
Good grief! The "Lemon Incest" video is right there bright as a button on You Tube. And it isn't even
original music, he scribbled down some lyrics to a Chopin etude. And, it is my opinion that the song, regardless of its meaning, is musical crap.
Let's see, involving his own minor child in a public display of his family centered rape fantasy, stealing music from someone else, and out of it all...producing, .voila! CRAP!
Make that pretentious crap. Gives a new meaning to the term Father Knows Best, dontcha think?
Yes. I think he's a cockroach whether he's actually molested fifteen year old girls or not.

14. Wow - did not know that
But even still, his magnum opus is about a fifteen year old girl he almost kills

There's something disturbing in that

And there's something genius in it as well

15. Art is art, Taverner. And genius is a morally neutral term, of course. He's got lots of admirers.
And it's fine by me if he writes about anything he likes, even though I'm not into his work. He should kept have his own child out of his fantasy life, that's all.
I saw his daughter's show here in Philly a few week ago. I find her music and stage persona tedious, too...she sort of hides out on stage, face shaded by hair, barely connects with the audience A critic here, dying to praise her for something, called her aura "mysterious." Feh.
I understand that she's a fine actress. I wish her well.
