I just noticed the rice I've been eating has been expired for a year |
|
I have this bag of Basmati rice that I can boil on the stove when I want some rice. I just noticed that the bottom of the bag says "Best if used by Apr 02 2009".
HMMMMMMMM WTF DO I DO?!

11. rw, back in ancient times, when I was in the army, we got a hot meal served in the field, |

including mashed potatos, which were quickly set upon by clouds of gnats. Our platoon sergeant told us to stir 'em into the potatos, " That's soldiers' pepper, just extra protein. I was so hungry I ate the fucking things and really didn't notice them...but I still remember.

3. Since you're boiling it anyway ... |
|
... it should be safe. It may be lacking in vitamins and flavor compared to fresher rice. If it's white rice, it didn't have a lot of vitamins to begin with.

4. If it's expired, drop another nickle in the meter before you get a ticket! |
|
I store my rice in the freezer which prevents the inevitable included bug eggs from hatching so it never gets little creepy crawlers running around inside the bag. Dunno about the food value.

If you haven't told it, the rice doesn't know what day it is.....

12. Rice is about 99.8% carbs anyway, probably makes no difference... |
|
On the famous Glycemic index, where glucose is 100, rice is 88. Jelly beans are 80.

13. Unless it smells or tastes bad |

it's fine.
The one likely detriment that I would expect is that it might take a little longer to cook.

tiny little legs and yellow faces.
If they're moving, that's even worse.
