10. The Mentors-Suck and Fuck and Cook and Clean--too offensive to post the video
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 12:30 AM by abq e streeter
Odd thing is, I actually met and had a conversation with El Duce, and he was real friendly and seemed like a nice guy. But I found his "music" sickening and offensive ( exactly as they intended) and not the least bit funny. Went to see them only because my friend thought they WERE funny and talked me into going with him. I can't remember why ( and probably neither could Duce while he was alive) but they didn't even end up playing that night. Either some of the band didn't show up, or they were too fucked up to play...Also, I do remember that there were approximately as many women as men there that night, so maybe it was just me that didn't get the joke .

48. The Mentors whole persona was extremely sexist.
A couple of my friends had an album, and I remember that one friend used to really like "My Woman from Sodom." How did El Duce die? I can't remember.

51. And extremely sexist is an understatement....
Duce apparently died from being "hit by a train while intoxicated". And this was only days after he'd said in an interview that he'd been paid to "whack" Kurt Cobain...Weird ,weird story.

They were talk-show regulars in the late 80s - early 90s. YouTube has all of the old Wally George episodes with him on it. Can't believe anyone took that band seriously. I bet the Mentors can't believe anyone took them seriously. Anything El Duce, Sickie and HS did in character was meant to be a giant middle finger to those who didn't get the joke. Out of hood, they're just normal, sit-down-and-chill people like you and I.

58. Could be; like I said, maybe I just don't "get" the joke
and again, I have talked with the guy and he was a nice friendly guy. But to me, the "joke" just isn't funny.."rape rock?" I just fail to see anything about rape that's funny enough to joke about. But I can see how they meant their stuff to be a big tongue in cheek ( in their case, maybe literally) FU to 'polite society".

34. Hip Hop's sometimes a lot less sexist than Top 40 or rock.
At least it's up front and honest, not that "You belong to me, you were made for me, you're so much like a little girl, come make me feel all good inside" stuff. There's some sexist hip-hop, too, but it's up front, and it's a lot less dangerous and mind warping than the pop charts. Or rock. It says "Come over here and lets have dirty sex because that's what I want," instead of "Oh I love you baby and I must own and possess you and I will worship you because I want to have dirty sex but I'm too polite to just say that."

John's not saying that's what you should do. He's saying he did it and now realizes it was wrong, in the next lines....

Man I was mean
But I'm changing my scene
And I'm doing the best that I can

Call it an evolutionary process that eventually resulted in songs like "Woman Is the Ni**er of the World".

As for "Run for your life", I'll admit, I find that one disturbing to this day.

"The Iceberg"

I-C-E B-E-R-G
What's that spell? Iceberg, nigga, can't you read?
Time to bleed, slaughter, slice
Try to say I wasn't nice as we waxed them punks like lab mice
Dice 'em up, slice 'em up, dissect
Put you in a boilin' pot and let your ass sweat
Cos I rap on game you think I'm weak in a freestyle?
Well 911 you should dial
Before my posse makes a move on your mom's crib
Think we got knives and guns? We got bombs, kid
Blow up your whole block, ya hear the gunshots
Throw you in the Syndicate cellar and let your body rot
Cos I'm the coldest motherfucker that you ever heard
Call me The Ice...or just The Iceberg

Evil E was out coolin' with a freak one night
Fucked the bitch with a flashlight
Pulled it out and left the batteries in
So he could get a charge when he begin
Used his dick, the shit was tight
Bitch's titties start blinkin' like tail lights
Rolled her over to change a connection
The bitch's ugly face cold spoiled his erection
I'm the Ice rhymer, a big timer
And yes I'm a pimp and a player and a hustler and kinda
A mack and a poet, impressive I know it
Don't only rhyme for niggas cos I live my life co-ed
On the mic it's livin' breathin' hype
A 1989 type Dolemite
Cool motherfucker, word
Call me The Ice...or just The Iceberg

Charlie Jamm fucked a freak on a ski-lift
10 below, gave her the dick
It was cold and she said "Quit!"
Charlie Jamm said "Bullshit!"
She said "Oh, oh, oh my god!"
Charlie's dick was frozen hard
But she said she never felt it
Maybe Charlie's dick melted
Yes, I'm the rhyme kicker, the hard liquor
Parental Guidance Sticker? Yeah, I'm the nigga
Triple X is how I rate
I'm the one your parents hate
I'm as cold as cold can get
Under pressure never sweat
Cool motherfucker, word
Call me The Ice...or just The Iceberg

Out with the posse on a night run
Girls on the corner, so let's have some fun
Donald asked one if she was game
Back Alley Sally was her name
She moved on the car and moved fast
On the window pressed her ass
All at once we heard a crash
Donald's dick had broke the glass
Yes, I'm the big wheeler, the girl stealer
And if we play cards don't let me be the dealer
The Ice, cool as water, hard as stone
The black mack of the microphone
Talkin' shit the way I do
Rhyme Pays, the posse grew
Did you like Power? Word
Well this is The Ice...or just The Iceberg

32. Rolling Stones' Under My Thumb
Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around

It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb

Ain't it the truth babe?

Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways

It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright

Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world

It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah

It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright

Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else

It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright.

Say it's all...
Say it's all...

Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe.

Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 08:32 PM by gmoney
Nice kazoo solo though...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mew5kyTDw0

- Words and Music by Hal David and Sherman Edwards

Johnny, I said we were through
Just to see what you would do
You stood there and hung your head
Made me wish that I were dead

CHORUS
Oh, Johnny get angry, Johnny get mad
Give me the biggest lecture I ever had
I want a brave man, I want a cave man
Johnny, show me that you care, really care for me

Every time you danced with me
You let Freddy cut in constantly
When he'd ask, you'd never speak
Must you always be so meek?

CHORUS

Every girl wants someone who
She can always look up to
You know I love you, of course
Let me know that you're the boss

49. I just remembered this song that I first heard when I was a youngster
Performed by Sam The Sham And The Pharaohs:

Owoooooooo!
Who's that I see walkin' in these woods?
Why, it's Little Red Riding Hood.
Hey there Little Red Riding Hood,
You sure are looking good.
You're everything a big bad wolf could want.
Listen to me.

Little Red Riding Hood
I don't think little big girls should
Go walking in these spooky old woods alone.
Owoooooooo!

What big eyes you have,
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad.
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways.

What full lips you have.
They're sure to lure someone bad.
So until you get to grandma's place
I think you ought to walk with me and be safe.

I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on
Until I'm sure that you've been shown
That I can be trusted walking with you alone.
Owoooooooo!

Little Red Riding Hood
I'd like to hold you if I could
But you might think I'm a big bad wolf so I won't.
Owoooooooo!

What a big heart I have-the better to love you with.
Little Red Riding Hood
Even bad wolves can be good.
I'll try to be satisfied just to walk close by your side.
Maybe you'll see things my way before we get to grandma's place.

Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything that a big bad wolf could want.
Owoooooooo! I mean baaaaaa! Baaa?
