My Grandfather is too old to grocery shop now.. |
|
it's kind of sad because he used to LOVE going to the grocery store.
We have finally figured out a way he can participate. We now just call him while at the store and he shops over the phone. He LOVES it! If you knew how much my Grandfather hates talking on the phone, this would be a shock!

3. That's a good solution! |

The medium-sized independent grocery store I usually go to has some older, former in-store shoppers who now call in their list. The clerks pick out the items and put them in a carton and someone picks up the order and delivers it. I don't think they charge anything for this service- nice small-town people helping older people. One day the clerk was worried because an older customer's favorite oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies were OOS, so we were discussing a good substitute.

4. I've seen people photographing items at stores and presumably sending that to someone at home |
|
They usually have this "Too many varieties. Which one?" Befuddled look about them.

5. Brings back good memories of when I also did my parents food |
|
shopping. My father just loved it when I watched the sales, and would use the buy one get one free, like a bag of oranges, or dish detergent,he got a kick out of how much money he saved that week. My dad had also enjoyed food shopping in his later years, but the stress of the shopping adventure became too much for him. Sometimes he would feel like coming with us to the stores, this was a good way for him to shop with help. We also started cooking more at home, and would make sure there was good home made meals always available in his fridge/freezer for him to heat up. Remember, many of our elders stop cooking meals from scratch, and startto rely on all frozen ,processed, and cans goods..... Keep those cupboards full. It's an especially wonderful time in our lives when we're fortunate to live close enough to our parents/grand parents and be there with love, and laughter and a helping hand.

Give your grandpa my regards. If he's like mine (may he RIP) he's probably one cantankerous old fart. That's OK, he's earned it!

9. Do you have an internet delivery service in your area? |
|
That's what I plan to use if shopping ever becomes too difficult for me.
