Do you ever think about someone you knew long ago and wonder if they think of you? |
|
On occasion I think of people I went to school with many years ago and often wonder if they ever think about me, or even remember who I am.
I'd like to think that they do, but they probably don't.

My high school sweetheart. Class of 1971.
Does she? Probably not.

16. I had two face to face HS reunion surprises, both at the 20th... |
|
One was a girl went to HS with but didn't know till we were in college. We dated rather intensely for a month then I met the girl who has been my wife for 33 years. In a college with 22,000 students it was easy to just disappear. At the 20th she walked up and said "What in the world happened to you? I thought things were going great..." I was embarrassed, but we laughed.
the second was a girl I wanted to ask out in 11th grade but didn't. However, I did ask a friend of her the usual, "Do you think Suzanne would go out with me if I called her?" The answer in 1968 was "yes" but I never asked her out. The friend obviously told her I wanted to ask her out because at the 20th reunion she came up and in a very sexy, aggressive way said, "Why didn't you ask me out? I know you wanted to."

6. I've just found 3 old friends on Facebook, and I'm very happy about it! |
|
I don't know if they'd thought a whole lot about me in the many years since I'd seen them, but it's nice to hang with them now!

8. My sister was naming a bunch of old timers we knew that she ran into once she joined. |
|
Scared the shit out of me. I know it makes me sound like a total asshat, but I have zero urge to reconnect to anybody. The good friends I had then have been my good friends all along, and are still around. There's people I'm curious about, and that I hope are doing well, but if they never know another thing about me that's fine. Calling me asocial is an understatement.
And when I do run into people I used to know they seem so normal, so old. Bug-eyed, bow-legged normal men. I can't do it. I'm 42 and see people my age with kids, a mortgage, already gray. They complain about the wife/husband, the kids, the insurance, the daycare....I'm sitting here with Judas Priest cranked, a hockey game on, and meatballs in the crockpot....I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything. :)

30. At 42, you're a baby to me!!! |
|
I just hit 55, official senior-hood, in December. And I'm not going gracefully into middle-age either. Yesterday, I ran 10K around my local lake with Offspring blasting thru the IPod. So I know what you mean, the "normal" people our age seem more like our parents than they do like us.
But they say the best revenge is living well, so we must be gettin' a lot of our own back!!!

Every now and then I wonder about the boyfriends I had in college...
There were only a couple...
They were nice guys, just not right for me.
I've even Googled them to see if I could find them...no luck.
I hope they found great women and had a ball!
They deserved to.
That was more than 40 years ago now, so I doubt they remember me at all...

13. Just one. From 1967. So here's an ironic thought... |
|
with the memories frozen in time, she's still 15, I'm 15 but now so much wiser. What if we were to meet and were then confronted with the reality of 43 years of aging. Kind of hyper-ironic. yet I still search the net for her trail.

20. I do. I wonder about old friends, sometimes even acquaintances. |
|
Sometimes when I see an old friend/acquaintance on Facebook I wonder if they'll remember me when I send a friend request.
And sometimes I'll even think of people I hooked up with and wonder if they have fond memories, or if they even remember me at all. I get the impression that once a lot of men get married, they try to forget and deny the life they had before they met their wives.

I do think about random people and wonder what they're doing now. Some I considered really good friends and we just lost touch. Some I reconnected with via social networking.

... and I've reconnected with many of them through ClassMates and FB over the past year. We're having a great time catching up, and reminiscing about the old days.
I was thinking of one of them just today. When I was in high school, you could come to school late on Ash Wednesday if you were Catholic, and had attended church in the morning for your ashes.
There was one kid who tried to get away with being late. He showed up mid-class, with ashes smudged on his forehead (fresh from the ashtray outside). The teacher looked at him and said, "Nice try, Mr. Schwartzberg. But I ain't buyin' it."

my first great love, from high school. We had a mutual friend who would keep a sort of contact going for a few years, but I moved and lost touch.
I was a complete ass for a good chunk of my life, so I prefer to think those people have all forgotten about me.
