6. I didn't know there was a new penny, |
|
I wish they would stop fooling around with our currency. It's not like there was a shortage of the old ones.

10. I think we need to get rid of the penny |
|
It costs more to make than it's actually worth. I never really liked pennies, anyway.

13. Half Penny eliminated in 1857 |
|
And at that time it had the purchasing power of a Dime today. So why do we keep this relic? An argument could be made that eliminating anything smaller than a Quarter would be the same as eliminating the half cent in 57.

... and to compound the matter, both pennies and nickels cost more to make than they are worth. We need a rational approach to our currency.
Eliminate pennies and nickels (and possibly dimes), and make any denomination less than $20 a coin.

17. Or make a dime worth a dollar, a quarter worth $2.50 and so on. |
|
Do it suddenly, secretly, at the stroke of midnight.
Everyone would be rushing out to spend their jars and piggy banks full of coins, thousands of people would be hired to update vending machines, and just like that the depression would end!
After that any newly minted coins would have proper denominations, "2 1/2 dollars" for the quarter sized coins, "one dollar" for dimes, etc...
It would sort of be like lopping a zero off the dollar, but only for small scale transactions.
I'm sort of joking, but maybe not.

If we are going to be in a depression our coinage might as well look like it
