Researchers find oldest-ever stash of marijuana
OTTAWA - Researchers say they have located the world's oldest stash of marijuana, in a tomb in a remote part of China.

The cache of cannabis is about 2,700 years old and was clearly "cultivated for psychoactive purposes," rather than as fibre for clothing or as food, says a research paper in the Journal of Experimental Botany.

The 789 grams of dried cannabis was buried alongside a light-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian man, likely a shaman of the Gushi culture, near Turpan in northwestern China.

The extremely dry conditions and alkaline soil acted as preservatives, allowing a team of scientists to carefully analyze the stash, which still looked green though it had lost its distinctive odour.

"To our knowledge, these investigations provide the oldest documentation of cannabis as a pharmacologically active agent," says the newly published paper, whose lead author was American neurologist Dr. Ethan B. Russo.

4. The seeds might still be viable
789 grams = 1.76 LBS of Pot ..... gotta test just a little bit for science and what not.

8. I work at a University biology lab, and I can guarantee you
that they tried some if they could get their hands on a little. Hopefully there was more than the 789 grams that they claimed.

I hope that there was a lot of seeds, but since it was grown for medicinal purposes, maybe they grew sinsemilla to get huge buds. I wonder if there is anything growing wild in the area.

9. But if it was sinsemilla there would be no seeds.
I have read about some lupine seeds that were older then this marijuana
that germinated after they were found by some researchers. However
the marijuana seeds are not as tough as the lupine seeds.

15. I was assuming sinsemilla at first, so I didn't think that
there would be any seeds to find. That's why I thought of cloning instead of planting.

In fact, this instance would be the first time (and last time) I ever wanted to see pot with lots of seeds.

19. "Made In China"... as usual
another point of contention for my dad, who is always on a rant about the Chinese-made goods here.

Now I will tell him that pot may have originated in China. Will he still rant? Who knows?
