I got a job!

It's been a very VERY long road, but I finally (after some 18 months of unemployment, without the benefits of unemployment checks) have a real job. Not only that, but it's back where I should be salary wise. For those of you who remember me, I was the NASA "storage guy"... now I have a similar position at a major storage company. The relief is overwhelming. Being back in California, being able to go to lunch at a Thai place or have Indian food for dinner, or, hell, just being able to go OUT to eat is such a huge change. I took my previous life for granted so much, and I never realized how it really was to be near homeless or near desperation, now I'll never forget. I don't get paid for a few weeks yet, but I will stand by my promise to those that "paid it forward" to provide me with my continued donor status for the last 2 years now... I'll send enough money to DU to cover at least 4 people for donor status ($50 each) after I get paid.

And I'll send some money to the food banks where I went for food sometimes, with the admonition that they BUY SOME PROTEIN to give away, and not just peanut butter!

To everyone here that kept me sane for the last two years, a big hearty THANK YOU. You were my lifeline.

No, not everything is fixed up yet (I'm driving a literal $500 car which may, or may not, last until I can get a better one), but the road forward is clear. Now let's all hope that the economy continues to improve and that everyone else that's been the victim of this Depression / Recession gets back on their feet too.

I've been climbing the ladder of my profession for the past 19 years and am quite comfortable now but I've never gotten past the feeling of dread when bills arrive, flashing back to my days of constant choices: rent or car payment? phone or electricity? and knowing that the phone would start ringing at 8:00 a.m. with calls from collection agencies.

It still feels miraculous to me that I can pay a bill on the day it arrives. I don't think I'll ever take it for granted.
