Rolling Stone: Producers of original "Slap Shot" plan remake with Pauly Shore in Paul Newman role
From the current issue of Rolling Stone:

Kings Road Entertainment, producers of the original "Slap Shot" movie, are currently filming a remake with Pauly Shore starring as Reggie 'Reg' Dunlop, the role made famous by the late Paul Newman.

George Roy Hill, who directed the original film, will return to direct this project.

When asked whether it was a wise career move to reprise a famous role by such a beloved and classic actor, Shore told Rolling Stone that "If Mr. Newman were still with us today, I'm sure he'd love to be chill-in' with the Weez, bud-dy..."

The character of the team's manager, Joe McGrath (played in the original by the late Strother Martin) will be portrayed by character actor Wilfred Brimley. "The Hanson Brothers" will be played by Disney rockers and teen heartthrobs The Jonas Brothers.

1. The JoBros?!
For Dog's sake, the Hansons were known for fighting! They took on the biggest goons in the Federal League! And I'm supposed to believe that the freakin' Jonas Brothers are gooning it up?

Not to mention Pauly Shore. :puke: Is he Eddie's great-grandson or something? Otherwise why the hell would they cast him?

This has the potential to be the worst sequel since the post-Peter Sellers Pink Panthers. :eyes:

3. Oh, FUCK NO.
Don't mess with perfection...

Reggie Dunlop: Oh you cheap son of a bitch. Are you crazy? Those guys are retards!
McGrath: I got a good deal on those boys. The scouts said they showed a lot of promise.
Reggie Dunlop: They brought their fuckin' TOYS with 'em!
McGrath: Well, I'd rather have em playin with their toys than playin with themselves
Reggie Dunlop: They're too dumb to play with themselves. Boy, every piece of garbage that comes into the market and you gotta buy it!
McGrath: Reg, Reg, that reminds me. I was coachin' in Omaha in 1948 and Eddie Shore sends me this guy who was a terrible masturbator, you know, couldn't control himself. Why, he would get deliberate penalties so he could get over in the penalty box all by himself and damned if he wouldn't... you know...

The look on Strother Martin's face in that scene... Piss your pants funny.
