I friended the wrong person on Facebook. What should I do now?
Case of mistaken identity.

I looked up the name of an old friend, and there was one that came up, with a photo of a teenager and a toddler...so I thought, hmm, maybe she had kids. The person had it set up so that you can only add as a friend, and no option to send a message first.

She accepted my friend request I asked in chat "did you go to X high school?" to which she replied "no why lol" :eyes: It turns out it's not my 30-something-old friend, but a teenage girl. I said "sorry for the confusion", and she replied "lol i don't care".

I can't keep her as a friend because my other high school friends will recognize the name, maybe even try to friend this person whose name they recognize, only to realize it's not actually her!

But, I don't want to be rude to this teenage girl who is now on my friend list. Please help me out, loungers.

2. Just be honest...
tell her in a message what you told us. Then, after a day or so removed her as a "friend."

3. That sounds polite.
In any case, I had better wait to delete her until after she logs out.

9. Troll them until they defriend you.
More fun and avoids the elitist stigma of being the unfriender.

12. She probably would not even notice if you "defriended" her.
I'm betting she has at least 100 other "friends." Just do it. The fact that she is not doing the same to you just shows that she is only interested in collecting "friends", because it makes her seem popular. Why else would someone "friend" complete strangers? If either of her parents are there, let them know what is going on. This kid is a prime target for perverts.

13. You don't have to explain.
There'll be no strings to bind your hands
not if my love can't bind your heart.
And there's no need to take a stand
for it was I who chose to start.
I see no need to take me home,
I'm old enough to face the dawn.

Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
then slowly turn away from me.

Maybe the sun's light will be dim
and it won't matter anyhow.
If morning's echo says we've sinned,
well, it was what I wanted now.
And if we're the victims of the night,
I won't be blinded by light.

Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
then slowly turn away,
I won't beg you to stay with me
through the tears of the day,
of the years, baby baby baby.
Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.

16. Just dump her. Shoot her a quick message if you feel bad. She won't care.
I had a similar experience, with a weird twist. I friended the brother of my best friend in high school. The picture was him now, and it looked like what he would look like now. But he was never on FB, so I couldn't talk to him. So one day I'm visiting my parents back in Mississippi and I see the guy in a restaurant. Recognized him from the picture. "Hey Mike, it's Joby!" I said. (Most people don't forget my name, so I don't worry about the last name. There aren't too many Jobys).

He smiled but I knew he had no idea who I was, so I used his last name. Yep, that was his last name, too. But it was the wrong Mike. Looked like him (doesn't sound like him), same age, same name, and he recently moved to the same area, but a different guy, and I found that out by seeing him in person instead of on FB.

I stayed friends with him for some reason. We don't talk or anything, but he's started posting, so I'll probably quietly drop him soon.

It happens all the time. Teenagers don't understand why grownups hang out there anyway, so yours won't even notice you're gone. I know my daughter and her friends unfriend and refriend each other all the time anyway. Some of them will unfriend someone just to post something about them, then refriend them a day later. She won't even notice, and if she does, she'll know it's because you thought she was someone else.
