When you want to get a greasy burger round about where you are, where do you go?

Mickey-Lu Bar-B-Q in Marinette, WI.

Walking in to the place is like walking through a time warp to the 1960s. Complete with the countertop jukebox consoles. Only negatives are 1. They don't sell fries (Chips only) and their milkshakes are kind of meh.

1. in the town to the east the best place is the sale barn
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 02:14 PM by Kali
but it's only open on Thursday
in the town to the west there is a Mexican restaurant that makes just about the best regular hamburgers in town, although the pizza place does a pretty good job too - and their fries are really good

but for the very best greasy burger I just go get one out of the freezer and cook it myself

2. The best local place to go for a super-greasy burger was recently gutted by a fire.
Fire marshals suspect that the fire may have resulted from $750,000 in accumulated debt, but the investigation is ongoing.

34. The White Hut rules!
Dammdest thing you ever seen - nothing written down, customers 4 deep along the counter, about 6 people workin behind a 5-stool counter, every square inch of the grill is goi'n, food flyin' outa the place - and the food is very good - the french fries are sublime!

5. There is a place over the mountain that makes great burgers - no frozen meat,
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 06:02 PM by old mark
hand-made patties, hand cut fries with the skins on them, and great obscure brand root beer.
It's one of those old stainless steel places and they have lots of hot rod pictures all over - they have car club meets there, and flea markets on the grass outside on Saturdays in the summer.

I'm not telling you where it is.

31. Five Guys is a little pricey for our area in the Midwest....
I went there the other day and got the double burger thing with cheese, and "regular" fries and no drink and it was $8.13!! Here in Kansas City you can get a good burger anywhere (without a drink) for like $5.00 so this is a little insane. Loved the burger and their fries but there's no way I can stop there regularly for lunch for $8.13 each time. $5.00 - definitely.

One problem is too many fries...I literally threw away half my fries. Like they fill up your fries and then they even put an extra scoop of fries in the bag, but good grief why so many fries? Charge a buck less and only give me half the freakin fries. I can't imagine what the "Large" size looks like.

It actually is a better deal if I go with my wife cause then we can split the fries, but it's not really a "stop in" type of place. I can go to Chipotle and get a giant burrito for like $6.15 and that should be more in line with what Five Guys charges, at least in our area.

17. The Chargrill in Raleigh. You can see the greasy smoke plume from blocks ago
Basic burger fries and shake joint. They're open all year, but there's no indoors for customers, though you're always welcome to sit at the picnic tables in the parking lot, no matter how rotten the weather is. You scribble your order on a ticket and drop it in the slot; eventually they call your number and you exchange hard-earned cash for grilled greasy goodness at the window. I think they've been there since before Columbus, and no matter when I've gone I've had to wait in line

Best burgers ever; no frills, cash only. Last time, I got fancy and had a Halibut Burger and onion pieces. I usually get a bacon chesseburger and coleslaw. Haven't been in winter, but in summer, you can eat outside on the shores of Campbell Creek. Very zen-like.

Not much of a burger eater anymore, but whenever I pass through San Antonio, on the way to Ruidoso, I make an exception. As good a green chile cheeseburger as there is anywhere in the known universe.

25. My kitchen
I rarely have burgers, but when I do I generally make them myself. I grind a chuck roast and season the patties heavily, use locally grown tomatoes and Vidalia onions when I can get them, and good quality swiss cheese. I grill the patties over lump charcoal.

26. Grover's In Buffalo, NY
Incredible 3/4 lbs. burgers that are all under $8. I generally go with the Cattleman, which is a 12 oz. patty with cheddar cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce.

It is the only place I eat out where I will actually not consume another meal in the day due to the size of the burger.

in North Park, specifically. They've got the best burgers I've ever had. The Brie Burger is awesome, but the Venison Burger is to die for. From the menu:

#32 VENISON Burger with Poached Red Wine Pears, Mushrooms,
Bacon, Cream and Plum Jelly 9.95

They have kangaroo, turkey, crab, antelope, anything you could want. They use Angus beef for most of the burgers.

The blackened cajun burger is great, too.

29. Chain: Five Guys. Non-Chain: Lindburger's.
Actually, Lindburgers is technically a chain as they have several locations in Palm Beach County, Florida, but it's local enough that I can call it a mom-and-pop place. But they have damn good burgers, and over 50 varieties of them.

Five Guy's Burgers are terrific as fast food burgers go. Their fries are a bit meh and they actually give you too many of them.

41. The ones where i work are amazing...
Little pub downtown, called Gibbie's... Almost everything is made from scratch (i think only the mayo and ketchup are not), which is why i love working there.
As far as the burgers themselves -- the meat is fresh pattied, and grilled to order, and then topped with darn-near anything you can think of.
Choice of several different kinds of fresh-cut fries (curlies, steak fries, or 'crab fries', which are steaks coated with Old Bay and seasoned salt), homemade potato chips or homemade tortilla chips!

Heck, i even invented a burger the other day for a customer... Encrusted the meat with jalepeno peppers and cumin, then covered it with jack cheese and a bit of pico. It was for the owner's best friend, and the boss came back and gave me a pat on the back for innovation.

42. Don & Bob's
Never mind that it's now called Don's Original--it'll ALWAYS be known as Don & Bob's. Oh--and the only valid location (out of three) is at Sea Breeze, on the point between Lake Ontario and the Irondequoit Bay, near Sea Breeze amusement park, one of the oldest in the country (100+ year old wooden rollercoaster and all).

Special touch--the flypaper strips hanging from the ceiling, complete with plenty of dead flies.

Also never mind Vic & Irv's a couple of doors down. TOO greasy. Stuff'll kill ya. :P
