UPDATE: The Dingbird is a mama. Kind of.
So yesterday I posted a first cautious shot of the robin's nest in the apple tree outside my 10-month-old daughter's window. Today while she napped I headed out with a stepstool and quiet gait.

Sure enough, mama bird is spending some time in the nest these days:

Why, you ask? Finishing up? Tidying the copious Siberian Husky hair to keep extra snug in this chilly early spring?

Nope. She's dropped an egg in there.

I took just the one extended arm shot looking down, not wanting to mess with mom's mojo too much. I'm being careful not to touch anything; anything else I should do to help them feel welcome? :D

1. Robin's Egg Blue. It really is a lovely color.
Suggestions? If there's a live bait store near you you could bring her a bucket of worms and strew them about. (I really have no idea!)
Just don't get too close. And chase cats away.
Aww. How sweet that is.

4. I'd like to give the dog a hug. Is it friendly to non-family members?

6. Like most Siberian Huskies, friendly and no sense of territory.
...Or loyalty. He'll leave the house and go off to live forever with the first person to give him bacon. :D

5. Oh, cutie. And for sure a nice supplier of lovely furry insulation for bird's nests.
You certainly do have it under control.
We have great Pyrenees here, and when we find the occasional abandoned nest, it is almost always padded with long white dog hair.
A nice ecological balance, or something like that.
