Sweet....

It's amazing what we can learn from our children...
He's a musician, and handed me a Ben Harper CD years ago....
We share all of our music...

We share like-minded sons...

15. Music is such a wonderful way to bring us together, isn't it? I taught my
boys all about music from the 60s through the 90s. We'd play "who sings this song" every time we were in the car together. As a result, they know a hell of a lot about music and bands. We took them to Red Rocks every summer to see at least 2 concerts. We all especially loved seeing Tom Petty and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Oh yeah, and the Wallflowers and the Cranberries and Toad the Wet Sprocket and so many more. Jackson Browne and Steve Earle, too.

From about 2000 on they started giving me CDs and then ITunes gift certificates so that I'd keep up on the new music that they liked. That's when they were driving themselves everywhere and then eventually went off to college.

They were both home this summer, in between college and law school, and we'd take hikes together. We started a new game called "what are you listening to on your IPod now" since all 3 of us had our IPods going while we hiked.

Music was the best way to teach them about war and protest, love and life, drugs and alcohol and consequences. It was the best way for me to stay in touch with what kids thought about all those things as mine were growing up. And now it's the best way for us to give something we love to each other.

Kids and music - such a wonderful combination.

 for making me think of all this again today.

18. Thank you for sharing....life is good
DevonRex:hug:
I agree...kids and music...makes our world.
I love your memories...and taking the time to share them. For me, it was also the best way to teach...
I rented Woodstock when my son was six...his older brother and sister were doing their thing, he was there, and I invited him to watch it with me.
His version, quite funny as he tells his friends, "My mother made me watch Woodstock with her but wouldn't let me look at the naked people!"
Good grief, I didn't make him watch...I wanted him to see Alvin Lee play guitar...I have no idea why. And the naked people? That was twenty-two years ago....I must have been a prude? Protecting my baby from nudity? I don't recall...times have changed....It's funny to hear him tell it...

When he was twelve, he picked up the guitar...the only instructor nearby was an old boyfriend from years ago...
He went for a few weeks, said, 'that guy is useless, he doesn't know Metallica'...and so he learned on his own.

Your memories brought back my own...thank you!
One more thing...in October he brought me to see Ian Anderson...the best date of my life!
Thank you for sharing...
And we'll keep on sharing with our children...

Music is life..

peace~
