It is really hard to find a good friend, you know? |
|
Ugh. I have an acquaintance / friend who has been very helpful and generous in the past, but then can just be so damn punitive and touchy at times. I never know where I stand.
Anyway. I don't have a lot of close friends. I know a lot of people, have a lot of casual friends, but I wonder if I really have any close friends.
Bah.

1. That's why I married someone I got along with. |
|
I had had boyfriends who I fought with and went through all the opposites attract bullshit, but luckily I married a guy who I like to hang out with.
21 years and counting. We have our troubles, but we have never not LIKED and LOVED each other.
Of course, my 2nd best friend high-tailed it down to Texas 2 years ago, and I won't be able to replace her.....

And we still like AND LOVE each other. I think it will 'take'. ;-)

I've been married to my best friend for the last 19 years, but now that is falling apart. And to confound matters, I pretty much let all my other friendships go by the wayside. I still have a few people I consider friends, but I constantly feel like I am imposing on them if I call or need someone to talk to. I wish I had managed my friendships better, but it is hard.

4. I think I'm with you Flaxbee, now that you've made me think about it. |
|
I can count on less than a full hand the true good friends I have. Plenty of casual ones, but really about 3 or 4 that are the best of friends.
I'm guessing this may be fairly common.
Cheers.

6. I guess I have two 'good' friends, not counting relatives. |
|
But among my good friends I'd count my wife and daughter. We're more than just kin.
My non-related good friends we've known for over 30 years. We are more like brothers and sisters than just friends. Lucky us. ;-)

7. Once you get out of high school real friends are few and far between. |
|
I'm very lucky. I married my best friend.

9. If you are lucky enough to have a good friend, treasure them.. |
|
I'll have to make do with the imaginary ones on Facebook. I did have one good friend - we fell out, and I haven't really bothered since..

11. I can't say that I have any close friends either. |
|
I have a couple of good cyber-buddies and some pals at work. Other than that, I stick with family.
I'm good at making friends but somehow not at keeping them.

my wife and a friend from college being closest.
I have a couple other friends, but I'm quite aware that they are my friends because of my wife, and if our marriage ever ended (for whatever reason), they wouldn't be likely to remain at all close - they'd be friendly acquaintances at best at that point, I suspect.
Which would leave just the friend from college...who lives 5 hours away - our contact is pretty much entirely over FB - we've had some great chats, but...still not the same as being able to get together and hang out.

My sister and brother and law live by and we are friends. Cultivating friendship is one of the keys to happiness. I wish I did it better and continue to work on keeping in touch with my peeps..

14. That is why I have stuck with my bestest friends from high school. |
|
Granted I am only 31, but we have remained BFFs since then. I have a couple of others that I consider really close friends, but my besties will always be the 3 I had in high school (+ my husband of course, who I also hung out with in high school since we are high school sweethearts, and he is best friends with them too!!).
I am bad about not letting others in my inner circle of friends. It is silly, I know, but I cherish having those 3 close friends.
