4. Slug Bug is a time honored tradition in some places |
|
I'm in my late 30's and I still play the game. Juvenile? Yes. Fun? Hell yes!

7. What about rock-paper-scissors? |
|
Does that reinforce stereotypical notions that are grounded in an acceptance of a patriarchal societal paradigm?

What could be more symbolic of the unrestrained violence of modern society?

10. Didn't everyone play.. |
|
punch buggy as a kid? I know I did.
We also played a card game called "knuckles" where the loser got whacked on the knuckles with the deck of cards a certain number of times. You could also give knuckle sandwiches..that's where you put your hand on half the deck, and the other half goes on top of your hand and then someone pounds your hand.
We played dodge ball too.

12. Honestly, until the VW commercial, I had never heard of, nor played |
|
Slug-a-Bug or Punch Buggy nor any variation of the game. My reaction upon seeing the commercial was to think that, if anyone punched me like that, I'd deck 'em.
And no, I don't feel deprived. Just not part of my childhood reality. We gave each other "Dutch rubs" and "Indian burns.":P

18. A Dutch Rub is vigorously rubbing the other person's scalp with your knuckles. |
|
AFAIK, "Noogies" is the same thing.

16. Some linguist needs to study the spatial pattern of "slug bug" versus "punch buggy" |
|
(Of course, everyone knows that "slug bug" is the proper English version...)
