2. I am one year above that, and NO!! |
|
We always had HBO growing up. My parents were fools I guess because they had no idea that we would watch Real Sex when we were in junior high. They didn't even know it came on. Interesting show that was. I quit watching after about Real Sex 950.

3. Okay, I guess it went 24-hours at the end of 1981. |
|
"On December 28, 1981, HBO expanded its programming schedule to 24 hours a day, seven days per week."
HBO filled the additional hours with three shows: The Who Farewell Concert, Rich Little specials and repeated showings of Clash of the Titans.
I spent a lot of time outside the summer of 1982 and 1983 (in Florida).

4. I remember ON TV. It was a little converter box that sat on top of the TV. |
|
At 6:00 you could turn the knob (the box's only feature) from OFF to ON, and watch movies, sporting events, and concerts.
But heck, better than that, I remember black and white TV. I remember when 25" TVs were THE BOMB, and when TVs still had a rotary knob to change channels, and the remote control actually made the knob turn.

7. I remember when HBO was scrambled, but I could get a clear picture (though it was black & white) |
|
and the sound would be in perfect stereo at 87.7 MHZ on the FM radio.
Manual fine tuning was the best damn thing ever invented on those late 70's/early 80's TV's and VCR's.

8. Yes - hell, I am old enough to remember when HBO was invented |
|
And cable didn't exist. My Dad could not understand why anyone would pay for TV when "all the networks are free" - ignoring that there was no ABC station close enough to get reception with our antenna.
The cable here (Tallahassee) went off the air at 2 AM, all channels - which was good since it interfered with my rabbit ears. From 2 AM to sunup I could pick up an amazing number of stations with those rabbit ears - TBS from Atlanta, a Macon station, George Public TV (which carried Dr. Who and Monty Python), and once in a while soap operas on some Mexican station.
