Poll question: Categorize the Most Pivotal Moment of Your Life |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 10:51 AM by XNASA
I was speaking with a friend, and we were talking about the the most pivotal moments of our lives. Since we are close, this person was able to confess to me that their moment occurred when they were at the end of their rope. They had a problem with substance abuse and conquered it. However, this isn't something that they felt they could share with just anyone, they felt they had to keep it a secret from most.
It's a shame really. Sometimes, the most important things in life, are things we feel that we can't openly discuss and therefore are unable to relate to others.
Thankfully, we have the DU Poll as a tool.
So...how would you categorize the Most Pivotal Moment of Your Life?
(I've listed some examples, but don't feel you need to stick to them.)

Without it, who knows what kind of life I would have had. Everything stems from that moment and from my parents who took that chance on me.

11. The outcome of the event might be positive for you...... |
|
..you got more in tune with yourself, etc. But....the event itself (Bush becoming President) would have to be considered a negative.

2. Birth of my child by no doubt |
|
Of course this was just 4 months and 1 day ago. But it has totally changed my life for the better and I couldn't imagine my life without him. But time goes on and something may pass it up or add to it or replace it.

9. I'd say that was Positive and Overt. |
|
I guess an example of Positive but Private in a case like that might be a private moment that you shared with your boyfriend, but it's really nobody else's business. It could be, I suppose, if you're the type to kiss and tell (and I'm not saying you are), but some people are more private in that regard.

7. Negative and Overt, but not THAT bad |
|
I was about to fail out of college, so I went home and worked in a grocery store for a while. A couple years later, I went back to school part time. 15 years later, I've got a great job and my life is pretty darn good.

8. The death of my father when I was 17 yrs old.... |
|
I'd think that's THEE defining moment, and it was entirely. totally, negative. The repurcussions from that event were all negative: substance abuse, depression, panic attacks, agoraphobia, etc. It was over ten years ago, and I'm still fighting the grief.

I will always remember the day of the onset of mental illness. It was very sudden, not something that sort of snuck up on me.

12. The day I found out I was pregnant |
|
It wasn't planned at all and my (then-future) husband and I had to make a lot of changes (moving, getting married, I left college and got a job) to accomodate it, but I love my daughter like you wouldn't believe!

13. I think events themselves are neither positive nor negative |
|
It's how we react to them. It's how we contort ourselves after events, or how we face the event itself. A negative can be a positive if you make it so. Life has a way of breaking things down to their simplest incarnations if we take the time to stop and ponder the miracle of existing. People complicate things.

18. Actually, I Voted Wrong |
|
I didn't take the private thing as importantly as i should have. I took the examples too literally so i went with "Meeting Your SO". It's not really that private, since i wrote a post about it.
My bad! The Professor

19. That fact that you and your SO are together isn't a private matter.... |
|
But the things you share together, the things that make a difference, are probably quite private. That's really what is inferred. Afterall, you wouldn't go blathering on about the intimate details of your life with your SO, now would you? Of course not.
Your relationship with your SO is very private indeed. That fact that you are together, is not so private.
I think you voted correctly.

Whew! Voting wrong almost ruined my day, and then you rode to the rescue with a perfectly good rationalization of my voting choice.
Thanks. Now i can take the 2nd half of today off, and not have to be morose!

For those who know me, you'd understand why meeting someone willing to spend the rest of her life with a lunk like me would be the most pivotal moment in my life. The Professor

Witnessing the murder of my highschool boyfriend..set in motion a period of substance abuse that would have never occurred leading to a whole host of unintended outcomes.
