10. Haagen Dasz Mango Sorbet...
.
...although AJ's here in Tucson (gourmet SUPERmarket) carries
a line of small-batch small company sorbet (can't remember
the name -- it is NOT Ciao Bella, although they also put one
out) made with a touch of wine -- the blackberry cabernet
was simply, utterly and just undeniably moanable.
.
I'd have felt terrible afterwards, but I probably woulda kicked
MiddleFingerMomMom to the curb to get at the last container
on the shelf.
.
Sorry (nomnomnom), MiddleFingerMom (nomnomnom) -- I'll
help you up in just a (nomnomnom) minute or two.

I also like chocolate chip cookie dough, rocky road, moose tracks and mocha (had that a lot in Europe) and most forms of chocolate...

but nothing beats mint chocolate chip.

I'm not too picky about brands, though I have fond memories of Whitey's from my college days.

43. OMG, I can NOT resist Gelato when I'm in Italy.
I so don't care about food, I forget to eat half the time, but that country could turn me into an Epicurean faster than the blink of an eye! Hazelnut Gelato, Cappuchino gelato, fruit, chocolate--you name it! One time we decided we'd eschew all other gastronomical pursuits and just eat as many servings of gelato we could pack in during a day of walking around Rome. Still not enough!

So much gelato bella, so piccolo tempo!!!

46. !
I lived in Sicily in a tiny town close to Catania for four years, and was so fortunate to have a landlady who not only was a gifted cook but who loved to share that gift.

What I enjoyed so much was the custom of the after-dinner stroll across the piazza. Our town - Motta St. Anastasia - was situated on the side of Mt. Etna in a region famous for its lemons and oranges. Especially on Sunday evenings everyone would get dressed up for this passeggio, stopping for a little chat with neighbors and friends, while the elderly ladies - dressed in the obligatory black - sat in front of their houses, watching the world go by. They noticed *everything*!

And during those evening strolls I had to have my gelato.

Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories! Mmmmm.... thinking about it....

61. Hey, I stayed in Naxos, right next to Taoromina in 1999!
I LOVED it there! I would run along the walkway near the sea, usually meet up with some other runners, then after we were done we'd strip off our shoes, shirts and socks and jump into the Med. It was pure heaven.

Then we'd get some wine, some pizza or pasta, and follow it up with sex-in-a-cup, otherwise known as gelato.

Yeah, Sicilians are their own unique culture, very different from the rest of Italy. Just after that trip, my sister gave me a copy of Cinema Paradiso, which I'd first seen in the early 90s, but I still can't watch without weeping buckets. Not just for the storyline, which is poignant enough, but because it captures Old Sicily so perfectly!

26. Pistachio ice cream is king for the delicate flavor....
but there are some great chocolate ice cream concoctions the are top kill for. One being Baskin-Robbins fudge brownie chocolate ice cream. Bern and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ain't bad either.

Sorbets and sherbets have their place in life too, Pineapple and orange are supper, lime and raspberry not so. The jury is still out on that mango sherbet crap.

Even when it's not good it's still pretty good.

74. I don't like ice cream.
I don't like cake or candy either. Perhaps if they came out with beef flavored ice cream I'd be more receptive.

75. Baskin Robbins Coconutty or Jamocha Almond Fudge
But the best ice cream I ever had was brown sugar, in a little shop outside a town at the north end of New Hampshire. Can't remember the name of the shop.

77. Hand Cranked Home Made Vanilla made by my Grandpa with
the home grown sliced peaches that he grew in his yard. Does that make it peach ice cream?

Though Black Sweet Cherry is the "flavor of the week" at my local ice cream chain, and that's pretty good, too. :9
