I saw a real, live Teabagger last night. President of the NJ tea Party in fact |
|
Some friends and I went to a Daily Show taping (which was a lot of fun, btw), and there was this guy who was being a bit loud, looked pretty disheveled, and was semi-incoherent, so I kind of assumed he was some random homeless guy who had wandered in since it's free. The warm up comedian finally called the guy out and asked him why he was randomly yelling things, and asked him his name like he did a lot of other people. At first the guy lied and tried to pretend he knew the comedian personally, and when asked his last name he refused to give it so the guy finally hands the comedian his card - and it turns out he was the President of the NJ Tea Party. Hilarious.
I have to say he was (not surprisingly) pretty alone politically in the room. I suppose there may have been others, but when it was announced he was a teabagger, the room was semi-quiet and you could hear a slight booing and hissing and no one clapped or cheered the way they did with other people - for sharing the same college or city, or whatever. I almost felt sorry for the guy, then he kept trying to make it a point to 'spread the gospel' here and there, and even invited Jon Stewart to speak at one of their upcoming Hate Rallies in Philly, where he also said they were trying to get rid of the notion that "it's just a bunch of old white men." I suppose it would lend them some sort of credibility to have a popular entertainer actually show up.
This is our opposition.....

seems like Jon would have enjoyed it though.
I've tried very unsuccessfully to get tickets many times.

3. When they come to town it's noticeable. |

I've sat on a park bench and silently watched them eating lunch.
It really is comedy. They really do not know what they are talking about. They are either the most gullible angered people or proof that when your angered you're more gullible.

4. and generally paranoid |
|
most of the ones I've met were anyway, and from the photos and videos I've seen, it's a common thread. This guy was no different, afraid to give his name or even to be honest at first about who he was. I think the paranoia mixed with misinformation/propaganda just brings the anger to the surface.
