1. My favorite word of late is engromulate |
|
(en grahm' u laet)
Both a noun and a verb
Engromulate is a substance made from dried gruel that is smeared into the cracks in flooring to seal them. To engromulate is to engage in the action of using engromulate.
This was a word invented by my daughter and I on a long car ride. We have actually discussed the entire history of gruel as a building material (starting with Mesopotamia and spreading swiftly from there) on many occasions.
Proving once again that some people have way too much time on their hands.

We have the word "nagivate". It's a combo of navigate and nag...
Works for us!
We also have "The California Adequate." (Aqueduct.)
These are as close as we get to nonsense words!

Got it from a comedy bit by Dennis Leary. He was going off about the word "croissant".
Something along the lines of the following:
It's spelled kroy-zant, but it's pronounced kwah-saw. Oh yeah? Well my name is spelled Dennis but it's pronounced kem-fleh. Okay?

22. Harcum - any nasty, gross, or unidentifiable substance. |
|
Can also be a handy abstract noun, e.g., "That's a load of harcum you're spewing there freeper".
I'm also partial to "kittywampus". Refers to something being out of order, skewed, or just plain effed up. :)
