Need songs to add to my "Shoot Me Now" compilation CD...
the reference being to the joke (summarized):
two spies in front of firing squad
spy #1 last request: sing 3 verses of Achy Breaky Heart
spy #2 last request: shoot me now
----------------------------------

ok, so far we have Honey (B. Goldsboro), Kung Fu Fighting (C. Douglas), Achy Breaky Heart (mullethead), Wildfire (can't remember who).

No prizes. Sorry!

5. Probably to give to someone on their 40th birthday...
or something like that.

As always, this is an outgrowth of a cubicle discussion on a Friday afternoon.

21. And the all-time winner is: Billy Don't Be A Hero...
There is no torture more torturous than this classic of badness from Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods, circa 1974...

Billy Don't Be A Hero

The marchin' band came down along Main Street
The soldier-blues fell in behind
I looked across and there I saw Billy
Waiting to go and join the line
And with her head upon his shoulder
His young and lovely fiancee
>From where I stood, I saw she was cryin'
And through her tears I heard her say

"Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life"
"Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife"
And as he started to go she said "Billy, keep your head lo-o-ow"
"Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me"

The soldier-blues were trapped on a hillside
The battle raging all around
The sergeant cried "We've got to hang on, boys"
"We got to hold this piece a'ground"
"I need a volunteer to ride up"
"And bring us back some extra men"
And Billy's hand was up in a moment
Forgettin' all the words she said

She said
"Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life"
"Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife"
And as he started to go she said "Billy, keep your head lo-o-ow"
"Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me"

I heard his fiancee got a letter
That told how Billy died that day
The letter said that he was a hero
She should be proud he died that way
I heard she threw that letter away

{military drums and fifes to end}

31. And that explains why we were so DAMB TIRED of hearing them.
In the mid 70's I lived in Omaha with nothing but top-40 stations all around. It seemed like every hour started off with Kun Fu Fighting, follwed by Wildfire (which they played even MORE than usual because it mentioned Nebraska), followed by You Light Up My Life, followed by Wildfire again.

We need an avatar that shows me blowing my brains out.
