Rosie Huntington to replace Megan Fox in "Transformers 3" (with pics)
Not bad, but no Megan Fox...

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley may replace Megan Fox in ‘Transformers 3’.

The 23-year-old Victoria’s Secret model – who has no previous acting roles – is hot favourite to take over the role of Mikaela Banes in the third instalment of the action thriller franchise.

Megan shot to international fame in 2007 for her portrayal of Mikaela in the first ‘Transformers’ film – which she reprised in 2009’s ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ - but was reported to have had a dispute with the movie’s director Michael Bay which led to her leaving the project.

Megan’s spokesperson said at the time: “She will not be starring in ‘Transformers 3’. It was her decision.”

1. Pretty insulting to be replaced by someone with no acting experience.
I actually liked Megan Fox for a few minutes. Liked her Rolling Stone inverview, she seemed like a pretty cool kid at first. But since then, she has gone the way of the typical Hollywood starlet.

8. From the few movies I've seen with Megan Fox - I doubt we'd be able to tell the difference
Megan's career seems to be based more on being eye candy than actual talent.

2. I hope she takes some of the money from her contract....
...and buys herself a sandwhich.

That's an unhealthy body image right there.

should she also do that? If she were heavyset, would you tell her to go on a diet, as that is unhealthy as well?

4. exactly, NewJeffCT. Models have a certain body type, or
else they aren't chosen to be models. Most (not all) tend to be naturally slender and have thin, long bones. Most are very young women, who also tend to be much more slender -- bodies just thicken a bit with age, but with youth, some people are naturally just very slim.

5. And of course, she's still too impossibly "hot" for Shia Lebouf
I find the idea of alien battle robots disguised as cars far more plausible than the idea that a dopey-looking abrasive schmuck like Shia Lebouf could land a sexpot supermodel girlfriend.

dopey nerdy guy - Shia - manages to hook up with the super-hot "bad" girl from his high school.

11. And that's what drives me up the wall about a lot of geeks
They utterly ignore geeky girls - with whom they might be both physically and intellectually compatible - to lust over the "hot" chick who a) is WAY out of their league and b) likely has zero interests in common with them and, possibly, several dozen fewer IQ points. Geekboys are some of the loudest champions of the "waaaaah!!!! I can't find a girlfriend because girls only like the mean bad boys!" crap, but meanwhile, they expect to be able to score a perfect 10 hottie. When was the last time you saw a girl who was as relatively attractive as Shia Lebouf (fair to middling at best) end up with Brad Pitt or Matthew McConaughy or some other A-list hot stud in a movie?

Sorry Jeff - please don't take this post to be directed at you personally. I've read your posts around here and you are a pretty cool guy, and I'm not talking about you at all. But the fact remains that there's a HUGE double standard among a lot of "nerdy" guys, who, despite not being smoking hot themselves, somehow expect that they deserve to bang Megan Fox.

He was kind of ugly, IMO, and was always with really attractive women on the show. While he is rich in real life, his character was not.

I will write more on your post later, though. I agree with you 100%, though.

23. Jerry? Jerry?
What about George freakin' Costanza? Sure, he messed it up every time. But he was always getting a chance with attractive women.

And Jerry actually was pretty rich on the show, he just didn't flaunt it.

monsters, magic and whatnot. But, for George Costanza dating an attractive younger woman... it's too much of a stretch.

13. You're right on that
I've read a few studies on how men & women act in groups. If 10 men walked into a room with 10 women, the men would tend to focus on the woman they perceive to be the most attractive of the bunch. Once she shoots them down, the men then focus on the woman they consider the second most attractive, and then the third, and so on and so forth, until they reach a woman that doesn't shoot them down.

Women in that situation, while noticing the most attractive guy, will usually focus on guys that they perceive to be about their level of attractiveness.

Qualifications: 1) There are plenty of exceptions to that rule; 2) Not every man & woman has the same definition of attractiveness; and 3) focusing on somebody and/or noticing them does not translate into dating or hooking up or anything like that.

But, IMO, where the geek is different is that they normally are too shy (like I was at that age) to get an outright rejection from the school's version of Megan Fox - they barely know the geeky guy is alive, so wouldn't waste their effort rejecting him. So, the geeky guy keeps up that fantasy that maybe he can save her from a horde of evil alien robots or from the movie serial killer or whatever and win her love.

But, when I was in high school, there weren't really any "geeky" girls. There were some bookish/shy girls, but nobody I would consider "geeky". Playing D&D was exclusively a boy thing, as was reading Science-Fiction and Fantasy, quoting Monty Python, etc. The girls that read books were into romance novel type of stuff. There weren't really any punk rockers, or even long-haired heavy metal types, and this was before goth became popular. There were a few jocks, a few groups of regular kids, a whole slew of stoner types, and a small group of geeks, all of whom were male. There weren't really any snobby rich kids or groups of evil hot girls like from Heathers or Mean Girls.

Oddly, for me, I never really dated geeky girls, as I couldn't find any, even through college. Plus, I was painfully shy until I was around 30 and met my now ex-wife. The geeky girls I did meet over the years already had boyfriends/fiances/husbands.

Even more strangely, I ended up marrying two women that most people would consider too hot for a geeky guy like me. Neither of whom had any geeky interests. Granted, I don't think I come across as geeky in person - just quiet & laid back most of the time. So, when I go out, I don't think people think, "OMG, what's that geek doing with that hot Asian woman?"

19. Yes - it's true that "geeky girls" are a fairly recent development
I am one, but I am 25, and the oldest true "geek girls" I know are maybe 30ish. I've always thought that most people tend to end up with a partner around their relative level of attractiveness - but I suppose that if the level 6 guys are getting shot down by the perfect 10s, eventually it'll work out that way. They could really avoid a lot of angst and pointless bitterness if they'd just give the level 6 girls a look the first time around, though ;)

And hey, I know plenty of "geeks" who are attractive themselves, and/or who have attractive partners. It's really ultimately about personality compatibility, and as you said, everyone is attracted to different physical traits. I mean, I can wear my Star Trek shirt out in public, or put on a dress. If you saw me in the latter, you'd have no outward indication that I can discuss TNG in depth :D

I think my main problem with Transformers is that the woman in that picture - and I mean no disrespect to her as a person - will serve no purpose in this movie beyond T&A, and I'm sorry, someone like Shia Lebouf does not merit such a ridiculously hot "girlfriend."

21. I should also qualify my experiences
by saying that I went to a pretty small high school - about 400 students in total. However, I went to a pretty big college and don't remember many geeky girls.

And, my D&D group last year had two women in it (out of 7 players), which was a first with me. I've gamed with a few women over the years, but it was always just one woman & a bunch of guys. However, due to some turnover & schedule changes, my group has no women in it now. :=(

29. I don't buy into the concept of anyone being too impossibly hot for anyone else.
Looks aren't everything. I would be stupid to limit my choices to only women that I thought were better looking than me. Likewise, a girl that looks like the girl above would be stupid to limit herself to only men who were as good-looking as her.

To me, the difference between an attractive but average looking woman and a supermodel is almost negligible. It would all come down to what's inside. Why shouldn't a really pretty woman fall for Shia. He's not ugly, and there's more to a man or a woman than looks.

I wouldn't want to be with a woman at all if I thought she only liked me for my looks.

35. Well, that is an excellent point, but - that's not the message Michael Bay is trying to send
Edited on Sat May-29-10 11:56 AM by WildEyedLiberal
The girl in Transformers is a supermodel-level hottie because Michael Bay feels that the male "hero" (and by extension, all the adolescent boys in the audience) deserves a supermodel rather than an "ordinary" (albeit attractive) woman. She isn't in there for her personality or personal heroics or any possible plot reason. She's there to be a hot fantasy object, and the idea that Bay might have chosen a more "realistically" attractive girl was out of the question, because she's only there to be the boy-toy fantasy object. And, as I said, when was the last time you saw an average-looking female hero wind up with some superhot male stud? Apparently in Hollywood, only men can expect to land partners who are far more attractive than they are, and it's that double standard that rankles my ass.

15. I don't understand why they aren't just writing Fox's character out of the story.
Has the character of Mikaela Banes been so essential to the movies that they need to bring in another actress to play her?

Just write her out and create a new vapid, useless, eye candy love interest.

Based on the picture, she just looks like a young, slender, very attractive woman. I doubt she's had all that much work done, if any. Probably just won the genetic lottery.
