Phet is expected to reach Oman in 30 to 36 hours, said Professor Mark Saunders, lead scientist and project manager at Tropical Storm Risk, a University College of London department. http://gulfnews.com/polopoly_fs/phet-1.636186!image/772940085.jpg_gen/derivatives/box_475/772940085.jpgThese things are unpredictable though!

2. Concrete construction away from the ocean... the main threat will be massive flooding |
|
if it hits... The UAE gets flooded out with tiny amounts of rain. I can't imagine a monster like that. The forecast has it missing us though.

5. if you've ever been to Altus, Ok, sometimes this place reminds me of there |
|
I would love rain, but I don't want the flooding that comes with it. Last time a hurricane came close, we went to the East Coast to see it and almost got stuck there. It was probably a silly thing to do, but you get your excitement where you can in this country.

7. Be safe, JMach and clyrc! |

I grew up in tornado alley (northeastern Oklahoma) so I'm not really afraid of bad weather, but a hurricane or cyclone would make me retract that statement.
Y'all be safe! :hi:

8. I didn't think such large storms were common in the M.E. |
|
Do you think people are prepared for this? How often do you get Cat 5 cyclones in your part of the world? Hope you stay safe - actually I hope it misses you altogether.
I'm just curious because they are talking about the Northeastern seaboard in the US being due for Cat 3 to 5 hurricanes in the next few years, which is extremely rare. Extreme Weather patterns are becoming less and less predictable, which is very dangerous when they occur in areas that are least prepared to handle them.
