I need to dry my nuts off!
Not *that* kind you pervert, I don't even have those.

But I bought some salted cashews and BOY howdy are they salty! So, I put them in a bowl and covered them with water to let the salt dissolve and washed them a few times.

But now they are wet and I want dry nuts! Plus, it's way too hot today to turn on the oven or anything, so what's a good way to dry my nuts?

1. No nuts, what, are you some sort of female? ;)
Yes, the salt gets me, too. I usually just rub it off, no water involved.

Just spread them out on a plate and leave them to dry themselves, especially when it's a hot day. Shouldn't take much time and then you can enjoy your dry nuts. ;)

2. Yes, "some sort" indeed
I also have some salted sunflower seeds that have the same problem and rubbing the salt off is almost impossible. I have them sitting on the counter now, to see if they'll dry off by themselves.

So then I will truly have unsalted nuts/seeds! I watched a Hal Sparks comedy special last night that was really funny, and one of his bits was about how it's impossible to have "unsweetened" tea, because that would suggest that first you sweetened it and then removed the sweetener. But that only "sweetened" tea and regular tea exists.

But in my case, I actually *do* have unsalted nuts because first they were salted and now they are not!

Most packaged "unsalted" nuts aren't really. It's false advertising.

4. Funny story about sunflower seeds:
Do not, I repeat, do not eat the shells with them! It's no fun ...

Salt is everywhere, unfortunately. It's even in sweet things you wouldn't expect it.

Although it sounds like it wasn't really that funny.

8. Uhm ...
The shells don't digest. That's all I have to say on this matter.

9. I used to eat them that way all the time as a kid
I don't recall any adverse affects, but then childhood is like that, we got away with a lot of things.

11. Have you tried blanching your nuts?
I buy blanched, unsalted peanuts ($1.30 per pound) and mix them with raisins ($1 per pound) to make GORP (good ol' raisins and peanuts) for a somewhat healthy snack. They compliment each other nicely. The only problem is they're addictive and it's hard to stop.

13. Lately I just buy whatever they have at my local Grocery Outlet store
I've come to love that store more than others around here because they have such different things and it always changes, AND the prices are amazing.

So if they only have salted nuts, I get the salted nuts and try to unsalt them.

But in general, I'll eat nuts of any kind in any condition, I'm a nut for nuts.

15. I used to go to a Grocery Outlet and loved it...
.
...but it had virtually no low-sodium, very little lowfat, no added sugar, etc.
.
Prices were great and items were kinda haphazard but interesting.
.
Their gourmet cheeses were usually EXCEPTIONAL deals.

17. Our store seems to have a decent amount of those type items
I see plenty of low sodium/fat/sugar stuff. Course, that's not usually what I've been looking for, but I'm beginning to pay more attention. Either salt is being grossly overused recently in packaged items, or I'm finally becoming sensitive to how salty things are.

And yes about the cheeses. And the sundries aisles too, good prices on vitamins, shampoos (and good organic brands too, expensive stuff selling for so cheap!) etc.

It's like a treasure hunt every time I go there. And it seems like a decent workplace because I see the same people working there for a long time and they all seem happy and are very cool.

is that it turns into a game of 'find the M&Ms.' :)

18. Crap! I just burned my nuts!!
They weren't drying fast enough and it's cooled off enough that I put them into a frying pan and was just going to heat it up a little and turn it off and let them sit, but I walked away and left the flame on high and soon smelled something toasty coming from the kitchen and now they're burned.

But when they cool I'll still taste them to see if they're ok.
