THE FLAG! More a sign of the times than ever before....
Everywhere I go, I see flags. Right now out my window I can see two of them. I see them on jacked up pickup trucks and on bumper stickers. I see the antennae types and I see huge flags every day.

And not one of them is made of any other material than something derived from oil.

No longer do we have the original HEMP flag made by Betsy Ross (think about hat for while...). Nor do we see any of the flags made out of cotton or other textiles. When i was a kid, the touch and the feel of the flag was very special. Something you remembered for a life time. To this day remember the way my grandfather's flag felt in my hand when my parents explained his military background and why the flag was included int he ceremony and it's importance to the proceedings.

No, they are ALL made of plastic. NYLON. And there is no more ritual. Flags stay up all day. The get tattered and look like crap. They fade. They are just another novelty now.

RANT OVER.

1. Yesterday was June 14th. That's Flag Day.
I think hemp flags are more likely to fade than those made from petroplastics.

They still make them. They are more expensive, and subject to fading, but I only fly it on holidays, so it has lasted a couple of years without visible damage.

Here is mine:

3. She gets it, cotton, hemp or nylon:

4. When my wife became a citizen in '95, I bought her an ...
... all-weather (nylon) Bennington flag with the "76" in the blue field, six-pointed stars and top and bottom white stripes. It's all sewn and embroidered, not printed.
