LynneSin's review of the movie "Orphan" |
|
I was bored last night and HBO had this movie with "On-Demand". Very good casting for what seems to be a B-movie style horror movie (Peter Sarsgaard, Vera Farmiga and CCH Pounder) and features a very talented young actress with Isabelle Fuhrman. However the plot was a bit too unrealistic for what could have been a great movie to compete with the likes of "The Ring" or "The Others".
I mean seriously, what person can walk into an Ophanage and just walk out with a kid like they were adopting a puppy from the local dog shelter. Sure there was mention that some sort of home study was done but even still, it's like 'OK honey we passed the home study lets go pick some random child from the orphange and take him/her home as our own tonight', 'Ooo look honey, here's a new addition to the orphanage of some random child with a russian accent that has absolutely no background history whatsover, let's bring her into our home and make her part of the family'.
Seriously who thinks of these plots. But if you do watch it, you'll stick with it since ISabelle Furhman plays the perfect role of a sick, twisted, demented stain of a human being somehow trapped inside the body of an adorable 9year old girl.

2. It should have been but I thought it was an interesting plot line |
|
after you suspend disbelief that an orphanage would adopt out their kids like puppy dogs.

Yeah, I suppose that movie was all right if you didn't guess the "twist" in the first five minutes. Which means an IQ hovering somewhere around room temperature. On a cold day. I'm still apologizing to Mrs. gratuitous and paying penance (e.g., "Julie and Julia") for dragging her to see that one.

4. Try Noroi: The Curse if you want a good horror movie like The Ring. |
|
It's available free online.

6. I thought Peter Sarsgaard did a fantastic job in that one. |
|
Such CLUE-LESS-NESS is NOT easy to portray!
Also, I think his love scenes with his disturbed wife were kind of sexy.

8. As I recall, she was mentally fragile.... |
|
believing herself responsible for the deafness of her child who almost drowned in the pond, a miscarriage and her alcoholism.....
Maybe disturbed was the wrong word, but she was not "healthy".

9. She lost her baby and had a drinking issue - mentally fragile is a good wordq |
|
disturbed means she's the one with the knife ready to kill all those who gets in her way.
