5. Damned right it is...
I just want to point out that due to convection effect, the actual on-the-ground temperature inside downtown DC or Baltimore is actually 5-8 degrees hotter than those readings/predictions which are made in suburban Columbia, MD.

I see Parche whining in the OP and I think "You big baby, you want to trade? I've got 3.5 more months of walking out of work at 6PM into 95-degree heat."

I've got my A/C on full blast and I'm still sweating. It's 10 goddamned PM; when is it supposed to cool off?

7. Well, I didn't know that it stayed
that hot that long in Yonkers. Though riding the Subway on the Lexington Line from GCT down to Wall Street is/was hell during the summer. Yeah, it might only be 80, but it is 95 degrees/humidity down there during the day. Fucking annoying when wearing a suit and tie.

Yeah, it was so fucking hot on my hikes over the weekend, I had to go for a dip in the river! Ahhhh!!

Silver Spring. It's lovely...I had "the best pizza in DC as voted on by the listeners of WTOP." today...I wanted to cry. Why can nobody in this godforsaken state make a decent pie either? It's not bad enough we live in a giant muggy oven, we have to suffer shitty pizza. Also, the whole state smells like the bay.

23. What did the listeners of WTOP say was the best pizza in DC?
I'm still trying to find places to eat here. Everything in Columbia is a chain restaurant, except for a few pubs.

42. Ben Yahuda in Silver Spring.
I'm kind of happy because it's kosher and vegetarian so I don't have to worry about what's in my food (kosher law being strict on food additives, also anything with dairy can't have meat in it...makes it easy to eat vegetarian.), they serve a veg-friendly French onion soup and a kick-ass homemade vegetarian "meat"ball too. It's not great pizza though in comparison to anything I can get back home.

If you're willing to come this far for pizza, you should continue down GA Ave. for another 3 miles or so into the city. The best pizza I've found thus far is "Pete's" (www.petesapizza.com) in Columbia Heights. There is one just open in Tenleytown too, I haven't been to that one yet but parking is almost certainly got to be simpler in t-town than the heights. Pizza Mart in Adams Morgan is a DC institution but horribly located just like the rest of Adams Morgan.

I remember living in Columbia and there being not much except chains. Still, we found some dining gems. My roommate and I found a great pizza place there that had $5 cheese pies on Monday nights. It was in the same plaza as the Giant and Blockbuster (near Fairway Hills and the Mall..kind of.) but that was 8 years ago and I don't know if it's still there. The guy who owned it was off-the-boat from Naples and only employed his relatives...he was the only one who spoke a word of English. The rest of them would just point and gesture frantically at you that your pizza was done. There was a shitty sports bar that I think was also trying to be an Irish pub where I got the best gumbo I've ever had outside of LA. Other than that, yeah not much. It's bad when your local Chinese food place is P.F. Chang. We used to drive about 20 minutes away just to go to Flying-T diner for lack of decent grub closer that was open past 9pm.

I think that's a DC phenomena. I hear the whole DC area used to be a swamp. How, since it never seems to rain?

37. we get the humidity, but we do get some rain
the humidity tends to be pretty brutal, we do get rain, at least occasionally.

Doesn't affect the heat or the humidity much or for long - the other day, it was miserably hot when I got home from work around 5, rained around 6, I went out and did some yard work around 7, and was completely soaked in about 15 minutes.

12. It's not that bad even
here in Atlanta.

We're supposed to be in the low-mid 90s for the next week at least.

One good thing, the humidity is not the usual 99.99999% - it's been between 40 and 60%, which makes a difference.

I fear what August will be like.

16. Sounds like you got our usual summer!
It's been gorgeous here, for the most part, and I live by the Ocean. Very little fog for June, just sunny and in the mid-sixties with a bit of a breeze.

the Pacific NW may rain all year, but summers are amazing in PDX and SEA. You wait: you're gonna be enjoying those 4th of July fireworks, while in SF we'll be soggy and foggy like we are every year!

48. And I wish I could send some yr way!
It's pretty grim here today. But what really kills me is that when I drive home from the Peninsula, you can actually see a line in the sky where it turns from blue to grey. My upstairs neighbor used to call our place the Munster's House, encased in fog while everywhere else was all sunshine and flowers!

But when September rolls around, and all the tourists are gone and the kids in school, there is no place on earth I'd rather be than right here. I bike across the bridge every weekend in October; it is truly the most sublime month of the year.

Living proof: taken during Fleet Week in 2008. Check the color of the sky and the water, and remember we get to wake up to that EVERY DAY for about 60 days.

Edited on Tue Jun-22-10 06:40 PM by Arugula Latte
When I lived above the Castro near Noe Valley I'd call my friend in the Sunset to ask her what kind of weather they had before I went over to see her. Invariably she'd say they were socked in w/ fog, while we had sun. So even the microclimates within the microclimates are hardcore in the Bay Area.

Supposed to be this way for most of the week. It's been years since I've seen a weather pattern like this.
