People reading books and using highlighters in public really piss me off. A rant. |
|
Who do they think they're impressing with their hoity-toity "reading," anyway? Their ostentatious literary displays make it hard for me to concentrate on my cellphone conversation about what movie I want to see.
Honestly!

2. I am all about the reading, but the highlighters? |
|
Fuck highlighters. All they really mean is that you have no memory whatsoever and can't *really* read for shit without a crude marker for the talking points, just like a Fox anchor.

3. I hate using a book that had been highlighted bc I am constantly |
|
thinking 'why would they highlight THAT?' or in some sections 'what is the point of highlighting an entire paragraph?'

Drove me batty in college.. I could never understand why some people would highlight all the text on a page. I thought it was supposed to be key words and phrases or some such. Got to the point where I just started saving ahead of time so I could afford new. Worth every penny.
Edited for typo.

4. How come no one ever emphasizes the lowlights? |

I don't know how to focus on what is important unless everything else is in a different color.

8. I agree. Between the squeaky noise and the ink odor I can't concentrate |
|
on my inane cell phone conversation. I mean really -- where are people's manners? I should be able yell freely about tossing my cookies in the club john after an evening of sucking face with a bunch of guys here for Fleet Week.

I love the smell of highlighters in the morning.
It smells like ... literacy!

12. Yikes! I'm SO guilty of that |
|
Never on books (not since college), but on printouts of medical and scientific articles from the web.
I have NO scientific background, but am frequently required to interview doctors about drugs and diseases that I know nothing about. So I have to come up to speed quickly, be conversant in the language of the disease state, and identify words and phrases that would be familiar to someone who actually knows what the hell they're talking about.
I read and highlight unfamiliar words, phrases and concepts, then look them up and read again until it all makes sense.
When I used to commute to work by train, I used that quiet time to do most of my studying, and infected the air with highlighter.

15. Also all those jackasses who just quietly mind their own business! What the hell is their problem? |
|
I mean, I'll be sitting on the bus and somebody will sit down across from me and just not be a frickin busybody. It's just incredibly irritating. And if you shout at them, sometimes they don't even react
